It is edible but fast spreading. It will seed year round in mild spells. It does not fix nitrogen. Whether to remove it or not depends on where it is growing. I weed it out of the vegetable garden but I'd probably leave it in a lawn or back of a border.... if I had a lawn or wide border.

I couldn’t possibly eat it all before the garlic mustard arrives.. Incidentally my chickens never ate it, either in the ysrd or when i hurled piles of it into the coop!

There are contradictory things said online about whether chickweed fixes nitrogen in the soil. Some say it fixes other things in the soil too. Some say it makes a good mulch...helps conserve moisture. I am not sure whether to believe it does that or removes moisture. It does certainly add shade to the soil. I find that taking a weedeater to it usually eliminates it . It sprouts and grows when it's cooler here. Once gone, it tends not to come back till cooler weather.

Ann of TN uses it to protect emerging basals during cold snaps in spring. It is not a bad looking weed..it's soft looking and green but I find I usually don't want a lot of it in my rose beds. The more it goes to seed, the more you'll end up with later.
