Bathroom reno - vanities

I am back again with another question on my primary bath reno. Probably not my last question!

If you were following along on the last thread, we decided on option 1. The one with the big shower. I'm including the latest renderings as a reminder. Note, the products here are just what the app we used has. Not actual products we selected. The tile on the wall appears gray even though we selected white in app. It will be white. I also include a picture of the wall/shower tile we're thinking of using. The floor in the rendering is fairly accurate - small marble hex.

My latest question is about vanities. We need 2. The largest size we can accommodate is 55 inches. We're willing to do standard 48" if we have to. We haven't gone to any stores yet but we've spent quite a while looking on line. So far we've only found 1 we like from Restoration Hardware. Trying to avoid going custom for cost reasons. For those that have renovated bathrooms and not gone the custom route, where did you purchase your vanity? Everything we see other than the RH one just seems so generic to me and now they all start to look the same to me.

We are wanting a dark-ish wood. Prefer to not go with painted vanity even though I know it's less expensive.

If anyone can point me in the direction of pretty-not-what-everyone-else-has vanities, I would be most appreciative.

Here's the RH one we're considering. We are going to go to the store in NYC this week to see it in person. The website claims they have it in stock. We shall see. We were going into the city for dinner this Friday anyway, so just going to make a whole day out of it and peruse the 90,000 sq ft RH store. If any locals know of another store in the city to check out while we're there, please let me know.

Likely wall tile (note: probably no niches, just ledge). Screen shot from an instagram story so not the best quality pic, but you get the idea.

Well, I am in the midst ( started Monday) of a bathroom renovation so I have current experience. I too wanted wood vanity , not painted. I' m most definitely not a trendsetter but it seems wood finish is going to be very big but not super avilable as yet. I did find some on Signature Hardware and there was a really good Canadian company (but the timeline for me was not workable). I am looking for it, and cannot find the name. I could swear I had 300 emails from them but it's not showing. I will post later when my brain clears.

Some of Signatue Hardware vanities can be viewed at Ferguson/Build stores, but in general I was not able to see most of the vanities I considered. I ended up seeing one on Wayfiair and then searched and found it on Home Depot.

To see them in person, it's slim picking as far as I found.

ok my brain unfroze and the internet search resumed working.

Thanks, salonva. I've been following your threads closely knowing you're ahead of me on the timeline. We probably won't start demo until we're back from traveling late March.

I will check that site. Thanks.

We do plan to go to Fergusons. There's one close to where I live and the designer we're using gets a discount there. I did look there a few years ago when I thought we were going to start the remodel (of course life got in the way and it didn't happen then). Unfortunately, I didn't see anything I loved but will definitely go again. Looks like RH also has an affiliate program so I need to find out if she can get a discount there too.

Have you looked thru a kitchen store? I was just looking thru the Kraftmaid catalog the other night at their products. There were many choices of drawer configurations, etc plus the option of getting a sink base and a drawer or accessory base next to it.

Yes, that one was a contender for me, but beautiful as the marble is, I did not want it for a vanity top. it is really nice though. It looks like jsk is looking for more contemporary?

    Good find-

So far we've only found 1 we like from Restoration Hardware.

We put an RH double vanity in our first home when we were selling and redid the MBA/dressing room. I did not like the quality, but it sure was pretty.

You might want to walk over to West 18 Street and check out Room&Board.

The style of the Home Depot one posted is fine but it kind of looks like all the other vanities. I want something a bit different.

We need one that doesn't have the top included. We will purchase our own slabs for counters, bench seat and ledge front in shower. We want it all to match and I want to pick the actual slabs.

Thanks, elunia, we will check that out tomorrow.

nicole, thank you I will check them out.

mtn, hmmm that's not encouraging. We'll hopefully get to see it tomorrow and see what the quality is like.

I'm not necessarily wanting something modern. I know the RH one leans a bit modern and that's OK. I definitely do not want really modern. No floating vanities or anything like that.

I know I'm not describing what I want very well. I want something that is high quality and doesn't look like the vanity in every builder's house. I probably should have also included this picture in my post. This is my dream vanity. Of course, ours will be 2 smaller single sink vanities, but I love the look of this one. Grabbed off the interwebs somewhere years ago.

Have you considered having them custom made? Forgive me if this has been asked and answered.

Laurel Bern of Laurel Bern Interiors does a whole rant on RH quality.

I was shocked at the price of the RH vanity because we paid under $2000 for a 60" custom vanity from Omega five years ago, but that didn't include the counter. But I'm sure it wasn't more than $3000 with the counter.

One of the issues with pre-made vanities is that sink bases are cheap so they give you a big sink base and smaller or fewer drawers than what you'd get if you went custom or semi-custom. I'd go to a mid- to high-end kitchen and bath showroom to see what they offer.

Have you asked your contractor about a good source for a custom vanity?

The RH vanity with the top is crazy expensive. However, for just the base it's not bad. I have no idea why their counter is so expensive, but we would purchase just the cabinet without the counter.

I haven't asked the contractor. We are using a designer although she really hasn't done too much. I did ask her about custom vanities and she said the price would be out of budget. She suggested Fergusons for vanities, faucets, etc. I'm not convinced Fergusons has what I want but willing to look again.

I will ask the contractor too. Good suggestion.

I'd go to a mid- to high-end kitchen and bath showroom to see what they offer.

    Isn't that what Fergusons is?

I have a vanity from Room and Board; excellent quality. They have many models and sizes.

Here's an idea. If you want nice quality wood, something not generic, but don't want to do custom, how about repurposing existing, quality pieces?

They don't need to match, they just need to complement each other. Think of them as "his and hers." I'd go to someplace like Stenella which has a warehouse filled with used traditonal dark furniture. You can get very high quality at relatively low prices. It is not hard to have a sink installed in one.

    Sometimes they have pairs:

No, Ferguson's sells everything, including the kitchen sink. I mean a cabinet store that does kitchen and bath design and orders your cabinetry. You chose the style, the wood, the stain, and the configuration of the cabinets. Your designer is talking about a cabinet maker--a craftsman--that makes vanities like they're fine furniture. Of course that will be very expensive, unless he's Amish.

I just typed a whole reply and it vanished.

So because I have been searching for all things bathroom related, my feeds and suggestions are full of vanity offerings. I just browsed on one that took me to an etsy site with very different options. I am linking one, but if you go down to the bottom where it suggests others, you will see there are some worth investigating.

FWIW I had looked at afew of the regular manufacturers that show up on etsy but the offereings I saw previously were much more limited. Here are some examples.give etsy a try I can't vouch for any but it's good browsing
