Do you have the flooring to replace underneath it? What type of chimney is there? Is it wood burning? Gas? A good contractor would be able to remove that with no issues but it may not be easy and will not be inexpensive. As far as unloading it, you may be able to sell it to someone for $50 or so, or be lucky to get someone to take it for nothing. It will be area and condition dependent.

Looks like a gas one so you will need to check what is involved to remove it .. You can try to sell it . I bet that the flooring does not go under it so you will need to figure that out. I do undertsand wanting it gone for sure. If removing it leaves a big flooring need you could maybe design that wall for a FP TV some storage and some display with the help of a good designer .Please remove those windowcoverings and those ugly woven wood blinds . For now get some solar shades to control the heat and UV get a fixed custom one for the arch then once the rest of the space is figured out you could add something else on the windows . You could do something like this to work with the floor issue

Plan to donate it to a restore or the dumpster. The venting needs to be dealt with as it was an add on conversion to an existing fire box, and may have been a home joe UN safe addition at that. You need a good contractor, and before even that? I;d source a local fireplace store if you have one in your area. ........even a contractor might want to do that.. Beyond that? Have at it: ) and plan for a chop of that wall and a mess.

Your pic is exactly what I want in the room, a centered mantle, TV, and floating shelves. Also cabinets for storage.
