Adding warmth to grey and white bathroom

last year

The primary bath in our new home is very boring to me with all the white and grey. I prefer warmer colors with bold accents like the last pic. The counters are luna pearl granite. I’m considering adding 2 framed mirrors instead of the builder grade mirror. I really like black fixtures but I’m not sure if maybe bronze would add more warmth. I’m also afraid of clashing with the chrome shower door. Maybe painting the walls or vanity? What colors would compliment the granite?

Congrats on your new home. Your bathroom is very pretty though I understand not being a fan of cooler colors. But, my best advice is to make no changes until you’ve lived with current colors & finishes. My guess is this is master bath / ensuite? If so, take your color cues from the bedroom fabrics so the 2 rooms connect / flow. The cool & neutral tones of this bath are the perfect backdrop for almost any colors you like, even rich jewel tones which are warm. Add the towels, rug, art & window treatment & see how you feel then.

ETA: it’s fine to mix metals - you could add black cabinet handles.

First thing I would do is paint the dingy walls a very slightly warm white.

Then pick a warm color you love (red turquoise gold yellow green?) for art, towels, rugs, and one decorative piece (for example, a ginger jar or vase) to set on the vanity.

You could paint the walls the color of the wall tile behind the tub. Paint the vanity a warm color from the granite. Consider wood accents as well.

It sounds counter-intuitive, but blue or blue/gray would bring out the warmth in the stone through contrast. Here are some examples of how blue can warm up stone.

Since you’ve just moved in, I would first try warming up the bath with accessories. Once you’ve lived with it a while, you’ll have a better sense of what, if anything, you want to replace.

Obviously this is a kitchen but the aged brass hardware and wood touches really warm it up. You could frame your mirror in stained wood.

This could be transformed into a very sophisticated pink and gray room. Paint the walls a very light warm pink, add more shine and sparkle with a different light fixture with some crystals. Add a clingfilm stained glass look to the windows, and some rugs and towels.

Signature Hardware has a really beautiful oil-rubbed bronze that reads more copper than traditional ORB (which I don’t love). Check out their cabinet hardware. I think aged brass or ORB cabinet hardware for sure.

We have the same granite and a very similar tile. However our shower tile glaze sometimes pulls a tiny violet undertone but the floor tile doesn’t. Try finding a warm gray paint that leans towards the little beige flecks in the granite but is still gray: Anew Gray, Revere Pewter, Dovetail, Chatura Gray. We chose Anew Gray, very dark gray rugs and towels close to Grizzle Gray, warm toned baskets for an organic addition.

There are a few steps to this process and you should not skip any of them.

    1. Live with the existing bath for at least six months. You may find that you like it after all.

    2. If after six months you still want a change, stick with paint and accessories (towels, curtains, etc). These are not expensive and easily changed later.

    3. Do not replace fixtures or fittings (showers, faucets, etc.) unless you just really hate them, and in this bath they are rather generic, so should not be a problem.

    4. Do not, do not, do anything that is expensive and hard to replace. The cost is not worth the result.
