I need a bit more info. How manty seats , what do you consider too modern? I like a Saarinen table with some chairs for a nice classic look a bit modern yes but classic. You can do the top in wood if that is something you would like.

The kitchen is a blank slate and with wanting light/airy/not too modern the choices are endless. Chairs are a big consideration (ensure island stools complement) and they will also have a big influence on how the space feels. What's the connecting space like, as you’ll want some consistency style wise.

I would go with a round glass table and four chairs. Looks nice and airy, maybe with a rattan base and rattan chairs.

Do you have a dining area? If not, perhaps you should consider placing it here instead of making it a breakfast area.

I’d be coordinating with living area and have an overall plan for the entire space. Also suggest measuring out the space to see what size/shape table and amount of seating will work best.
