Alabaster in kitchen with dark and black elements

last year

Hello All

We have decided we want to paint our living room in Alabaster from Sherwin Williams (ref https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7008-alabaster) . The main issue we have is that the living room extends into our kitchen that has chocolate/dark cabinets, gray backsplash, black granite countertops and black/steel appliances. There is a 4 foot divider in between the two sections.

While the main living room has tables/furniture that would work well with Alabaster (the Sherwin Williams website recommends tan colors as the coordinating colors), we are not sure what it would mean in the kitchen that has chocolate, gray and black. We will NOT be changing cabinet colors for sure.

I have attached some pictures so that you get an idea about the amount of existing color in the kitchen and the current color (yellowish) which seems to work well (or we have grown into it over the years).

We would appreciate some recommendations on

  • Would extending Alabaster all the way through be odd given the chocolate/gray/black in the kitchen
  • If not Alabaster in the kitchen, what would provide continuity but also work well with the existing kitchen
  • Any other suggestions other than Alabaster (close to it) if we were to adopt that for both the living room and kitchen

Thanks
