I suggest you start by inquiring with your cabinet maker he they are able to match your existing cabinet colour. I don't see the entire kitchen to see how this would relate but a dark wood cabinet to match your island would definitely look more massive than white.

Wow, thank you so much for the visual. It is so helpful. I am working on getting in touch with the distributor for the cabinets. I am also thinking a vintage/antique door may work if I find the right one. If it has some glass it and some dry wall around the outside, it may lessen the stark contrast. Thank you for your help!! I really like lisedv's image of a big dark wood cabinet there. It looks like a piece of furniture. I don't mind at all that the scale looks large - it is a large cabinet that will hold a ton. Hardware will help too.

Your island looks like it's dark wood, so why not match that?

I would not do a tall cabinet there but you might get away with the same color as the island for a lower cabinet that the existing counter will fit on and make that space a nice coffee bar,

We installed new cabinet doors on upper area to extend over the cubby’s and raised and extended counter and replaced the desk with drawers instead of cabinets. Perfect fit.

A wood lower cabinet might look out of place in your current cabinet lineup. There will be differences if you install a new cabinet to match your current white cabinets. Paints and finishes change over time and a new cabinet, even if the same style, would probably vary a bit in color.

Are two nice and taller laundry/ blanket baskets an option? One could hold your powders and the other your backpack? You’d still have easy access to the outlets and if they’re of a cotton material, they won’t scratch the floors.

If you like to “hunt” for great unique pieces of furniture, I would seek out an interesting piece that can be used for storage.

I do like the darker color of your island for a standard cabinet. I don’t think it would look wrong there at all.

What about continuing the mail separtor idea down with rows of cubbies? That way if the white isn't quite the same and the molding isn't quite the same, no one would notice.

Or glass paneled doors?

I would try to stick with the same cabinet company and same white color. Have them make and send you a door with the current paint/dye lots, so you can compare to the existing kitchen. With your current lighting, your cabinets don't all look the same anyway, so I think you will be ok ordering the same white. Only way to know is by ordering a current door sample.

@mmc429, I do not need to keep the counter. I would prefer to have it behind a door to keep it hidden.

If I were going to mix paint to match your existing cabinets, a door would be necessary. You can provide a door and it's more likely your cabinetmaker will be interested in doing the match.

Carry the measurements of the cabinet you want in that space since you may stumble on something when least expected.

You have an opportunity to do something more interesting in that end space, so go “shopping” on websites and visit local old furniture places. If you’re handy, the right sized item can be painted or refinished.

Yes, the manufacturer is the best way to get a matching cabinet or something that will look like it’s been part of the plan. That is worth researching.

Would you be interested in a secretary cabinet/ desk? What kind of storage do you want - air fryer, pots, and platters, or pantry or pet snacks and things for little drawers without softclose? Doors, drawers, pull-outs, drink fridge?

I want doors to hide the extra items that are always underneath the desk. The extra storage would be for mostly larger pantry items, paper towels, etc.

We’re not sure of your budget. You could add a shelf or two under the cubbies and stain it a fun color to intentionally match baskets below that would hold paper towels and protein powder.
Otherwise, you could have a fairly involved and pricey update on a small space. But, if it’s a daily eyesore that’s so obviously not working for you - skip my idea! (Baskets shown, but don’t have a program to show shelves, etc.)
