I’ve has this photo saved in one of my idea books, and your room reminded me of it. If you’re wanting a simple update rather than a major purge, there are many nice ideas here. I like the view from your large windows, and this earthy palette complements it.

Remove the built-ins; wallpaper the niches; add mirrors; salvage the sofas; add coffee table wide enough to service everyone seated; the bench in front to the fireplace allows for extra seating (my bench is from the 1800's and it has been with us for 55 years...many times reupholstered).

Cherry on the sundae...a chandelier instead of the fan. Measure for size by adding length and width of room and convert the sum into inches.

If the carpet has to stay, you can add an accent rug under the coffee table. Pull the sofas away from the wall
