Flooring dilemma for upper level

hello everyone! i have solid wood floor in the main level, and now want to remove carpet upstairs in all bedrooms and hallway. trying to fogure a good flooring option. would you suggest the same hard wood floor or is it ok to go with the newer trendy flooring that is not hard wood. TIA

I would at the very least attempt to use the same hardwood as the first floor.
