How does it work as a volumizer instead of crimping? I know a few younger ladies who sometimes crimp their hair but have never heard of using it as a volumizer. Have you tried the large barrel curling iron for volume? Also, I am not sure but I think there is a chemical process to add volume to just the root area. I have heard it talked about, but not sure exactly what it is. If that is something you would consider, perhaps your stylist could help or of course - GOOGLE! LOL

Not exactly the crimper that you are using but I have a mini crimper that I tried using to improve volume. It did give me more volume, but I did not like the way my hair looked, it was bumpy. I wear my hair in a straight bob, if I had a curlier style, the mini-crimper would have been an option for me. Also, I did not spend a lot of time working with the crimper as I started worrying about damaging my already thinning hair.

There are YouTubes for this, but of course. It crimps hair near the scalp which is then hidden by hair on top. I think it’s weird looking and if the wind blows you’ve got funky bumpled hair exposed.

I think a good root lift product plus blowdry are the better bet.

Ok they are playing linking games again. Just wrote that I agree with Bunny that the crimping looks funny even without the wind blowing - then poof it disappeared. Happened to see a video yesterday and the woman still teased her hair at the back even with the crimping. It made her hair fall in an odd way. I'd go for priduct before an appliance. I use GK Hair Styling Mousse when I feel my hair is looking flat - would link it but that's a no no today apparently.

This hairdresser does her own hair with a crimper. Check out her videos. I tried one & I could not completely hid the crimps like Bunny said above. https://www.youtube.com/@StylesBySummer

I like Moroccan Oil Root Boost and blow dryer, not too hot.

Thanks for all the tips and tricks. My hair is very fine. I can style it and it looks fantastic…for about 3 minutes. Then it falls flat. I’ve used every trick I know. Today I rolled it on the new hair tool that is causing quite a stir (that is total snark), heatless rollers a/k/a velcro rollers. I sprayed the roots with Oribe spray wax before rolling. It wasn’t totally flat, but it didn’t have the volume I wanted or expected.

Oh, just to add to my hair’s issues, I now have new growth in front right at my part. It will not lay down. It sticks straight up regardless of what I do. I look like a startled chicken!

I would use something like root boost. i think spray wax could weigh down rather than give lift.

Here is a YouTube technique showing a root booster with a regular curling iron. Also Also, perhaps your stylist has a crimper that she could show you the effects before you purchase.
