pairing a Daphne with a red dragon maple

Hi,

Zone: pnw 9a (was 8b)

I would like to pair a Daphne with a red dragon maple and potentially Hakone grass. I am trying to decide between

A. Aureo marginata and mae Jima. I am really drawn to mae Nima’s graphic punch but wonder if it is too much.

Any suggestions appreciated!
