What is the flooring next to these areas? IMO fix the lighting before choosing flooring for sure . If the buget is tight replace that center light with an LED track with 5 heads all bulbs LED 4000K do the same 4000K LED bulbs for those pendants and the DR fixture . Then think color. I do need to know the rest of the flooring please .Wahtver flooring you get make sure you buy enough to redo that whole kitchen down the road it needs a big revamp for sure . We are replacing the flooring in the entire kitchen and dining area, not just the area currently torn out. The only other room on this floor of our house is the living room which has carpet that we are not interested in replacing. We are open to tile but have not found anything we like. As far as lighting I don't feel it is necessary to change the lighting, it may not seem like it in the picture but it's actually quite bright in the kitchen. We do not ever use the center light, and the natural light from the patio door has it bright enough we don't even use the lights at all during the day.

Neither of those look right to me with your current cabinets. The color variation in the dark floor makes it look find of cheap. Can you find an option closer to your cabinet color?
