Beautiful roses ! But why did you get rid of the rest of them ?

I have one own root Olivia rose bush from David Austin website that has been one year in the ground , but does not bloom at all . It is a healthy 3x3 ft rounded bush . I really dont know if I should shovel prune it or not . I planted Boscobel near it at the same time , and it blooms a lot .

Some Kordes roses also did not bloom for me , maybe they required cooler nights than central FL .

pink rose, because for most of the year it just throw out ocotopus canes in my area, i also do think some roses are just prefer cooler climates, many of the DA here, the kordes rose summer romance also prefer cooler climate

Does Olivia bloom all year for you ?

Mine kept throwing octupus canes and l kept trimming them back till l got a rounded bush , maybe thats why she got angry and is not blooming !

pink rose, my experience is exactly the same as you described that's why i got rid of the 2 ORA tree roses, there are better roses for my climate

It must be location or something because mine never throws canes and stays nice and pink. For me she has been absolutely easy care

Kristine, it's definitely a location thing. I've watched many videos on it and it seems that anywhere that is 10 degrees F cooler than mine ORA will not do octopus canes.

Hoang, very interesting the way ORA behaves for you, it’s the most “tidy” shrub rose that I have in my garden, staying pretty rounded and symmetrical. i have also noticed its canes are TOUGH—my pruning shears and hand struggle with them, which i consider a positive. Blooms a decent amount for me too, I love Olivia!

Ang, that is good to hear that it stays nice for you, I wish it would for me too cause I do like the blooms.

pink rose, ORA actually blooms better when it was new lol, first year i was like whoa a must have, now it's no thanks, there are better

Sadly no single rose does bloom like that for me in central FL ! I always have more leaves than roses .

Mine last season in a pot, May first flush. She's a wonderful rose.

Artist-FKA, see that looks wonderful. And you see the problem, your first flush is all the way in May, my first flush is April. By June ORA will become an octopus.

How many Olivias in your picture?

Artist, just one. the camera angle makes it look way bigger than it is. She is probably 5 1/2 tall by 4. She does seem like she doesnt produce as well as when she was younger so we will see what she does this year.

How old is she? Mine is 4 years old and doing well.

Too big? That wouldn't bother me if she kept producing bloom. But I think ORA is a bit of a one time wonder. May flush great, then not much for the rest of the year.

Artist-FKA, size isn't a problem for me, it grows octopus canes with a few shrunk blooms at the end of each, not to mention it's thrips magnet

Goodness! This was EXACTLY what she did for me last year, after this pretty flush in May.

I attributed the behavior to adding alfalfa pellets in mid season, because she grew like nuts in foliage, and the octopus canes you mentioned, with the exact shrunk blooms you describe at the tip.

Then again, others kind of did the same, which is why I suspected cultivation and not an inherent trait.

She does appear to be a low performer after the first flush. I think she's a one hit wonder per year.

pink rose Fl, have you tried giving Olivia some Bloom Booster fertilizer? She may need more phosphorus (a higher middle # in the NPK ratio) Water her good then hit her with some Miracle Grow Bloom Booster..it seems to work well for me even with potted roses. If you are totally organic just look or an organic with a higher phosphorus # than the other ingredients.

I trim my Olivia back after a flush, then fertilze again.

I gave Olivia all sorts of fertilizers Organic & non Organic . Even extra potash . But she still doesn't bloom . I may try an extremely high bloom booster before l S/P her !
