Help decide on new lights for our kitchen?!

First-time homeowner here! My last post about my kitchen got so much love and helped me realize that all this kitchen really only needs is a new light fixture. The last pic is an inspo pic I liked but thought I’d leave it to the experts to let me lnow what would look best in my MCM kitchen! :)

It would be great if you could add a second pendant over the island to look balanced. Only having the one pendant not centered to the island looks odd to me. The recessed lighting would be great too.

If hiring an electrician is not an option at this time, I would look at some “offset” light fixtures. Sorry, I am not sure how to describe them.

I mocked this one up just for fun. It comes in white and grey, but I thought the green sort of matched the backsplash. I do hope you grow to love the green. It looks great! But, I must admit, I am a bit biased because my backsplash is almost the same color.

No idea if this fixture is MCM btw. 😬 I mainly picked it because of the offset design. I like how it makes it appear like it is centered to the island.

To me a kitchen light over an island needs to be very good at lighting the island . The one you show IMO is DR fixture and barely good there since I aslo like DR fixtures to light the table with good light on a dimmer .

Some questions: What is your ceiling height? What is the length of your island?

I think you should lean into the MCM of your kitchen and get a light fixture in that style. If you have no other lighting in your kitchen, that light also needs to provide sufficient light for the space. I would not put a dining room pendant - type fixture over an aisle (and the one you like looks modern to me, not MCM, so I'm not sure it goes with the style). You need something that will give you enough light in the space so you can work.

Is that the only light in the kitchen?

If it is, it wouldn't be enough lighting for me at all, so I would be calling an electrician to figure out how I could add some 4" recessed light to properly illuminate the kitchen.

Have you thought about adding a linear light or adding a second pendant light? Here are some images that show both. If you really need light it also might be good to look into adding some can lights in the kitchen.

do you have under cabinet lighting/ It looks a little shadowy along the counter and the UV from the window is not great obviously. If you arent doing under cab lights I would get a directional track light.....Might be better than can lights w the ability to aim at strategic task spots along the counter , due to being a straight galley kitchen [I think] .
