It's that time of year when I go around and carefully look at which of my hostas are showing signs of sporting and make a judgement call as whether or not to excise the sport this year or wait until next year.

Last year I'd noticed one of my 'Striptease' was sporting on a couple of leaves and decided to leave that shoot in place and see what showed up this year. Glad I did. It's now showing sporting on a total of 3 shoots, which were removed when I lifted the plant to refresh the medium in the pot its in.

Here's what we got:

The first two pictures are the same division from a differing angle.

I also noticed a 'Princess of Karafuto' that came up almost white, like it was pretending to be 'White Feathers'... It's only the one shoot.

There's also a 'Captain Kirk' division from last year that showed some promise then but it's not looking like much so far this year.

Time will tell what happens with these, I'm most optimistic about the 'Striptease' sport over the next couple of years.

Debra, the sale was a smash!

This is Midnight Ride, which is a sport of Paul Revere, which is a sport of Patriot. Whatever’s happening here is certainly different.

Pieter, those are some interesting looking sports you have there. And that they came back is promising that you might have something different.

I was hoping you would tell us about your plant sale. You brought a lot of plants and even had hostas leafed out early. I hope they all found good homes.

Sandy, I have no doubt all I sold went to good homes. Most everyone that bought them was an experienced gardener.

Forgot I had another one but this isn't so much sporting as reverting. I removed this off a 'Snow Mouse' which had started to revert back to 'Blue Mouse Ears' and while there is one leaf on the one shoot that still shows variegation I rather suspect that will no longer be there next year, but, you can never tell....

Hi Pieter, the eye on my ’funky’ Midnight Ride has a second leaf, similar to the first. I can see a third leaf is also going to have variegation. Should I separate it, or just continue to watch?

IGG it reminds me of American Hero and/or Woop Woop which all tie back into Patriot's sports bloodlines.

Stumbled across a sport developing on a clausa var. normalis. Two leaves are showing edge-variegation, somewhere between chartreuse and cream. It's now been separated and time will tell how it develops. I have not been able to pull up any sports out of clausa, which somewhat surprises me but there you are.
