We have hired a carpenter to help design a wood fireplace surround and mantle and the ability to do some built ins on the empty wall next to it. I need some ideas and help with the design as the carpenter needs feedback to present a sketch to us. We have a colonial home so want to stick to that style but with a simpler design asethics. Would appreciate photos, rough sketches and any other ideas for coloring as well. The granite surround will not stay and the walls in the whole room are snowbound. The kitchen cabinets that the room opens up to are shown in the pictures below. We also have black accents throught-out in decor, light fixtures and hardware.
