I think that combination of bloom colour and fragrance is really hard to reproduce, unfortunately, although plenty seem to have tried. I’m lucky enough to have multiples of LEH, but I will be interested to see how my new Guillot rose ‘Notre Dame de Rosaire‘ compares when it blooms.

Or at least the color. No fragrance or different bloom shape would be fine too.

'At Last' was the closest I could ever find locally. All my roses tend to go pinker than promotional photos show (I even get pink on Julia Child!), so I do get a little bit of the lovely gradient that LEH and Lady of Shalott have. I got too impatient trying to find either LEH or LOS so had to settle for what was available. Not the greatest picture, sorry.

I have LOS, recovering from vole root chop, but she's doing great. It will be a while until I see blooms though.

But LOS doesn't quite have the spark and glow of LEH. There's something magic about that one.

I wondered about ‘Henri Delbard‘ or Tantau’s ‘Chippendale’, if either are sold over your way? But LEH does have that magical inner glow, doesn’t it? Funny, I didn’t really like the blooms much at first because of the pinking, plus it can go splatty and spotty in heat here. I’ve come to really love it tho, especially when looking like this:

Nollie, I saw your picture before I read your comment and thought ’that’s as good as LEH, what is it?’ but of course there is only one LEH, sigh. I actually have one at my old garden and could go get it but I don’t want to disturb the folks living there now even so and so I keep an eye out.

Mine was incredibly florliferous for a first year own root (1gallon) last year. It's wonderfully fragrant too

Here's my LEH for comparison. The color is a little bit different but these two are certainly similar, even when it comes to fragrance!

These were taken at dusk so the foliage is dark.

Nollie, that’s a good idea, we are friends with thr folks living there and I already have a Jude the Obscure cutting from that garden, I can try LEH too though my success with cuttings is about 50/50 so far.

I think 'LEH' was an Austin dupe for an earlier rose called 'Just Joey', which is still well worth having.

I hate to say it but Well Being, while beautiful in its own right, somehow does not quite pull off the LEH effect.

Just Joey is not an Austin, and the rose it looks most like is Abbaye de Cluny. Diane

This is not a "dupe", but you might want to consider Sunbelt Soul Sister (link). It seems to do well in the botanical garden near me - and seems more fragrant than advertised.

No, Just Joey was never an Austin, I didn't mean to imply that it was, but they have a tendency to introduce roses that compete with already established and well known roses... Kew Gardens / Sally Holmes another example.. besides competing with their own of course..

About 20 years ago here in England, 'Just Joey' was a long established scented HT in the apricot/orange colour range, until 'LEH' came along, and the continuing rise of DA roses here generally. Before then if you wanted a rose in this colour it was always 'Just Joey'. Now I only ever see it in public parks. Everyone wants a 'LEH'..

At the same time 'Carding Mill' was introduced in the U.S. [it was never released here], and there's been a proliferation of apricot/orange roses from various breeders ever since. They don't have to look identical. Poor old 'Just Joey' got relegated to a 'has been'.. but as you can see from Ben's fab photo, it can still hold its own.

I’ve been debating getting Just Joey as a tree rose to balance my LEH tree rose in the other long, narrow bed edging my patio. BenT, your gorgeous one has just made my mind up for me!

Just Joey is certainly still impressive! And very fragrant from what I hear. LEH is one of my most wanted roses, but it has never worked out for me. DA sent me 3 across 2 years and none even made it to the next January. I see Lady of Shalott in a lot of pictures now...but to me it's quite different and lacks some of the LEH beauty. Sure seems more vigorous though!
