Removing Alstroemerians

The front garden has a large bed of Alstromerians. The bulbs have taken over the front garden and I have decided that the plant (bulbs) have to go. This exercise will take me a while as I have found the bulbs to be at least 12" deep and in bunches. Is there an easier way to remove these bulbs?
