Context is key.

Stairs, risers, treads and handrail will be wood.

Style of home? What color and type of wood? What type of handrail? Other finishes? Pictures?

Traditional/contemporary, new color will be light to medium brown oak, it was reddish solid oak. Wooden handrail.

What you have looks beautifully crafted. Why throw it out? Change the color to match the floor or paint the spindles and trim and have just the steps and rail refinished.

I agree, the wood would look best and a great fit. I would not change them out either, just color and only if you wish.

I would not change your beautiful staircase. It is lovely. I had a new oak staircase installed a few years ago. I chose black iron balusters, as I wanted contrast with wood. Best of luck on your journey.
