Am confused -- it looks like what you're showing is a wood-look tile rather than wood boards? (based on the grout lines)

I'd have somebody in to see whether the wood floor under your carpet could be saved -- they might be able to sand and refinish it to a lighter hue with a natural sealer. (Not as light as your new love, but more harmonious with your house.)

Thanks for your response and sorry for the confusion- the picture was a tile floor I am thinking about for the attached master bath. I would use the same tone in a floating engineered wood in the bedroom. I can refinish the floor, I am not sure I want to go through the dust storm. My question really is - can I have a different color floor from the rest of the house? My gut is saying no it would not be Harmonious as you say.

Maybe I can just put an area rug on top of the current wood to lighten it up - then
I can carry that tone into the bathroom?

I would keep the floor matching and lighten things up with a rug over it.

I would keep all the floors on each level the same. i also worry that you will not find wood look tile next to real wood to be a good look.
