Help with privacy please.

last year

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me with some suggestions. My neighbour has a spy camera tucked inside her vine and i need ideas to help block her. While sitting on my top deck she has full view of whatever we do. She refuses to take it down and denies its there. We currently have a fake boxwood hedge however due to bylaw codes i cant go higher than what i have it.. however the town said i could suspend plants for height or trees. Not quite sure what i can suspend it on, and i am willing to build something to suspend on. I would appreciate any suggestions as they are completly invading my privacy. Thankyou for any ideas

Red circle was where the camera was last fall, its still in the same spot.

Can you take a picture of the whole yard and seating areas?

Can you put up a folding screen of some sort, mystery while you’re sitting there? I just grabbed the first thing I saw on Amazon.

    Ugh, autocorrect— Maybe, not mystery.

Should be easy to block with a decorative piece of art on a pole.

A large and shiny wind spinner that moves and flashes. Mess that camera up good, lol. I'm not really serious, but sometimes the petty comes out. It shouldn't take much of a piece of art to block the camera if you can have it on a pole. You may have to mount a hanger or bracket into the brick of your house to hang anything there.

But a bit more... why does your neighbor have a spy camera trained on your yard? Is that legal where you are?

beesneeds thankyou for your ideas. The woman is retired and has nothing to do. Unfortunatly i live next door to IT. Apparently its allowed where we live, disgusting.

A few strings of twinkly lights and flapping flags going from your house corner to the shed roof?

Is it really a 'spy' camera? Or just a security camera? How can you tell what she can see on it?

Can you put up a bit of trellis like she has? Just about as high and viney as she has it. That would block the view and be pretty. I like florals suggestion too- you could change out the decor for holidays to be extra festive.

Has your neighbor told you she can see onto your deck? For a deck raised off the ground, complete privacy from homes set so close to one another is hard to achieve.

If you are sure that your neighbor’s camera is viewing your property, consider a multi-prong solution that adds privacy and makes a point to your neighbor:

    1. privacy screen as per a prior post or a planter box with lattice to train vines on. Or add a couple small potted trees on the deck.

    2. a tall mirror positioned behind #1 with the mirror facing your neighbor’s camera

    3. a flapping flag as per a prior post mounted on the exterior wall just above the height of the screen/lattice. If the camera uses a battery or is motion sensitive this will trigger the camera repeatedly or drain the battery quickly.

    4. If you like shade, an awning or patio umbrella will add another layer of privacy.

There are several things you could potentially do but its difficult to advise without more pictures of the yard to see what room you have. can you post more pictures of the space?

The idea for putting up something that moves would be good because it will trigger the camera ALL OF THE TIME. In addition to that,…I thought pergola might help …the width of which could be calculated to block the view from the camera into your space. You could even mount a wiggly think on top to trigger the camera constantly….

I’d put a hanging basket there, and have trailing plants with whatever other plants you like.

I had two at my last house on either side of my garage door (not for privacy, just looks).

Or a trellis in a pot, in the corner, with something that will climb well (as others mentioned above):

I don’t really think this is a good idea, but….a friend had neighbors who had various issues with each other then one put up a camera that covered the other one….and then vice versa:-0
