We put in LVP a few years ago. It's been great. People think it's wood. I agree I don't care for wood as it mars. It's also counter indicated near water.

Do you have wood anywhere else? You really want to keep floor consistency between rooms.

What flooring will be in the areas leading to the kitchen or are visible from the kitchen?

did the tile butt to carpet in the other areas?? if you liked the look of tile you can find great tile looks with vinyl squares. hardwood installed next to already installed hardwood in adjacent rooms takes a bit of effort for a good result but dont fear hardwood.

If you have wood floors in the rest of the home do the same in the kitchen . If the pld flooring is not available anymore get the same type of wood unfinished and have it done to match.

Just be sure to consider the traffic pattern in your kitchen if you are considering a wood floor. We have a wide galley kitchen with the back door (only door we use) and door into the garage at one end, and at the other end, door to the basement, then the kitchen opens to the whole rest of the house. We have hardwood everywhere else, but that traffic path is SO heavily used that we decided not to do wood in the kitchen, and went with tile. A long runner would not have worked design-wise. That said, a rug in your kitchen would protect a wood floor from water damage by the sink and dishwasher.

I've had tile, sheet vinyl, hardwood and laminate floors in my kitchen. By far my favorite is hardwood. White oak site finished in a medium brown tone. EASY cleanup with Bona spray hardwood cleaner. Yes it can scratch and get dented, but it can be refinished to look like new if needed. It will outlast any other material.

We have had hardwood in both our kitchens without issue so I would vote hardwood. More importantly though is to be consistent with flooring in surrounding areas.
