Custom cherry cabinets

Hello. we have a house full of cherry cabinets and doors. can we paint them? these are custom built and beautiful. but not the color we want. we are turning this 1974 split level into our moden rustic dream home

side note: We dont mind the kitchen lay out and the counter depth drawers. but its so much wood. we are planning to make the kitchen island one level and replace the granite with stone.

the post on the left is support, we will remove that when the engineer comes and checks the crawlspace.

we are planning to remove the stove back splash and tile the back wall

this is our forever home, one day we will remove the low ceiling and the uppers.

do you have an inspiration picture? it might help. modern rustic??? what do you mean ? the cabinets are fine to work w new soapstone counters maybe, since you want to replace them........painting those cabs doesnt sound rustic at all / the cabinets are fine and should be left as is...... do fix the island height issue.. I would put money into a new floor.....since you say rustic..look at the hand scraped floors you can use . I dont think the ceiling is that much of a problem. Its a little confusing without some pictures of what you want.

I love the cabinets and the stone. The only thing I would change is also the floor - possibly slate.

I don’t think the wood is the problem. The kitchen needs some major changes imo. Removing the massive stove hood, the bi-level counters and the pillar which looks out of place.
