O, I really can't warm to those monstrosum foxgloves. I feel a bit offended by those which have split blooms or worse, bells which stand horizontally from the main spike. Obviously a conservative (with a very bloody small 'c'). Just got the standard purpureas and luteas in the wood...although I am gradually losing the whites to reversion to the more common pinks. Need to bulk up new seed plantings (and some more of the pale leaved 'Silver Fox' heywoodii.)

No, I don't think so - the intergenerics are usually a cross between digitalis and the tender isoplexis (and terribly unreliable). Think the horizontal varieties are just selective breeding of purpurea.

Our wild D. purpurea is my favourite, in either purple or white. I prefer its natural elegance to any of the fat, stiff or misshapen "improved" flowers.

Rosaprimula, what happened to your name? Was it the kids messing with your computer?

The fasciated blooms are very interesting and rather other worldly looking. I had a fasciated bloom on my Blueberry Muffin Hosta one year…… it wasn’t pretty. Lol

(I also don’t like digitalis) Do you know it is still the most widely used plant for treatment of heart disease.
