I’m responding to keep your thread alive, I don’t consider myself an expert, but after years on this forum I have learned that you don’t want your recessed lighting behind you. It throws a shadow on everything you do. Ideally you want your recessed lights 12“ - 18” off the wall, your lower cabinets are 24”, so light will shine on your work surface.

That means all of your recessed lighting should be relocated (ambient lighting - green spots, aisle lighting - red spots). Over your stove there will be a vent hood. Make sure that has plenty of light. Also, recessed and pendants for your island may be redundant, it might be nice to have a softer lighting option there. Don’t forget the task / under cabinet lighting as well. Good luck!

No kitchen has too much lighting if it has zones and dimmers. I typically put my cans 24-25” off the outside wall so they fall directly over the counter edge, in your case you need some in the aisle too

Take the depth of the upper cabinets (usually 12-15" deep) plus the depth of any crown moldings.

Are you using LED? Size of light? 4" diameter? 5" or 6"? I like 4". Warmth of Kelvin should all be considered. Make sure all the Kelvins are the same. For a warm look 3000K is typical. 3500 is less warm. 4000K is a cooler. 5000K is considered more like natural daylight but it is a bright light. Over 4000K is a cooler light. Check your pendants and undercabinet lighting. You want them to match other wise the lighting is not cohesive.

I’m curious about the placement of the pendants over the island. It looks like you centered them left to right on just the part where you have seats rather than on the whole island. I’m not an expert at all but I’m wondering if they will look off kilter when viewing the whole island. Also noticed they aren’t centered front to back, so maybe the cans will be your main task lighting for work on the island? In any case, I’d recommend doing an elevation looking from the bottom of your layout looking toward the back wall, and another looking from the right side of the room toward the range wall. Pencil in pedants and see what you think.
