It is war here, please advise

Since loss of my cat, am being overrun by chipmunks.

Any suggestions?

My long awaited streaker I was going to work with got stem broken. I put bird netting around few others...

How can I discourage them?

Hope to see some solutions here. I am also being run over by chipmunks, I've never seen so many. The squirrel population is way down, I've heard that the two don't mix well.

There's a granular product to put in pots etc to stop damage from all kinds of animals. I have squirrels that dig in pots and throw out whatever's in the pot. Saw some squirrel throwing out begonias this morning. I will check when I get home and check the name of the product.

nicholsworth - Yes, I have tried the rat trap and have caught a few but also caught two red-winged blackbirds. I need to find a bait that the birds don't like.

old_dirt..awww..I had no idea that a bird would go near a rat trap..we’ve never had a rat trap..we haven’t attempted to trap chipmunks yet..it almost seems hopeless to get rid of them..

John, those are my streaked seedling. I recently got into hybridizing, a fun project. I love growing things from seed and so it went. So loss of that flower stem is a biggie for me.

I am wishing stray cat find my home.

I do have old havaheart trap, years ago we tried to relocate squirrels. We caught baby opossum and that was the end.

Adopt a cat. I live in the city, so we have an animal shelter that's begging for adopters. If you are more rural, it might be harder, but try laundry billboards, newspaper postings, and word of mouth.

Bkay, I really want to get a new cat. My old one was 16 and she loved her space and was a queen. She was very happy here, maybe because we got her from forest like living as a kitten. But she did not die from old age, something got her. She was a great hunter, all 11 lbs of her. Thus hoping some tough street fighter will find my space and agrees to take over .

Is there a way to put out cat food that the chippies won’t get into? Maybe you could attract a cat. Or…….Try contacting Tree House, 312-477-3983. I believe they have a ”working cat program that could fit your needs. working cats are cats that are used to being outside and work in shops, barns, large storage facilities, anywhere rodent control is needed. The trade off would be food, water and a warm place to sleep in inclimate weather.

I sprinkle kitchen garlic in the areas I want to discourage chipmunks and squirrels, although you need to keep reapplying.

Thank you much! So far I tried coffee grounds and blood meal in their usual hiding spots. It seems better but more investigation needed.

Debra I did not know about Tree House program. I will give them a call. Knowing cats, I can not imagine how this program works.
