Hey Erika — really sorry to hear you’re dealing with that crackling sound. We know how frustrating that can be, especially when everything looks great on the surface.

Based on what you described, the issue usually comes down to a couple common install-related things:

• If a plastic underlayment was used, it can cause popping noises, especially if it wasn’t laid flat.
• Even small high or low spots in the subfloor can lead to movement underfoot, which creates sound.
• Lack of expansion space around the edges can also cause the floor to shift and creak as it settles.

It’s worth checking the type of underlayment used and confirming that the subfloor was prepped within the recommended flatness (typically within 3/16” over 10 ft). Expansion gaps around the perimeter should also be about 1/4”.

If you’re unsure, we suggest talking to your installer about lifting a small section to take a look underneath — that usually reveals the issue pretty quickly.

Mcmillan Floors are designed to be rigid and stable, so this kind of noise is almost always fixable with a small adjustment.
