Landscaping ideas needed

I'm buying a house and need some ideas on what to do with the front yard. I really want to elevation of the house to show. Right now, it feels like there's too much of trees, bushed, and shrubs. Side grin trimming the trees, should I remove anything else?
How can a help this house have more curb appeal?

It looks nice and clean to me. Not sure where you are located, but reminds me of houses in Texas. Anyway, you could add a pop of color where the bushes are next to the house as the only thing I really notice is that is very color neutral (like wearing tan chinos with a plain white shirt). Maybe changing the tree closest to the front door into one with flowers or a tree that has more colorful leaves like a red japanese maple (if your climate can handle it)

To receive meaningful landscape advice, you need to tell us your approximate location (nearest city & state). Thanks.

One of the advantages to purchasing an older home is mature landscaping. I'm surprised that you want to make major changes to yours. Where ever you are in the US it's the wrong time to plant anything. You can spend the summer looking at photos and consulting with pros to determine what you want and then do the work in fall.

Beautiful home, Congratulations! I wouldn’t remove anything yet. Live with it a while and see what works. I’d trim trees as needed, but personally I love when things are a bit overgrown and natural. Maybe get some pots and bowls of flowers for color. Otherwise, wait til Fall for bigger decisions.

    Agree with others.

I’d slightly trim up the Live Oaks and Crape Myrtles, wait on other changes.

You could remove the CM in front of your front window (on left), but again, I’d wait until next year to decide … you might appreciate the shade it provides and seeing pretty flowers out the window.

Plus, we’re only seeing your house from this one fixed view, right in front — if someone is driving or walking by, they’d see more of your house (especially if some things are trimmed up).

As far as other changes, it’s too hard to tell what’s what. Maybe once you’ve moved in, you can show close-ups and various angles.

    Congrats on your pretty house!

It’s a very nice home! And yes, it looks a bit cluttery and overgrown to me too. I think I would first remove both small ornamental trees/shrubs that are right next to the house and also the rocks creating the flowerbed borders. A clear-cut edging would reduce the visual noise immediately. Like this.

I think it looks great as is. Sure, limb up the trees and thin and prune the shrub to the left of the door, but to me, curb appeal is better with lots of greenery.

If the OP is in Texas, and has Bermuda grass, clear-cut edging would be very very very challenging to keep nice. St Augustine grass would be a bit easier, but it would still be a whole lot of upkeep.

I’d keep the borders, it looks nice and natural. Most likely local stone.

I agree, Sigrid, and especially in our brutal heat and sun.

Thanks for the great tips, everyone. This house is in Texas. I can't wait for it to be mine!
