Hmm. Not sure your bedding works so well with your rug. I'd maybe get a more neutral rug, like a wool faux sisal, and then add a Chinoiserie style bench.

I feel the room is too warm, so I’d lighten up the rug and the art. I like this bench suggested by Sabrina Alfin Interiors with your nightstands.

@ffpalms - you have a heluva nerve ripping the OP’s art off of her bedroom wall and putting up that generic garbage.

Agree that the yellow rug is a bit harsh, and ffpalms rug and art suggestions are good.The blue Ballard bench looks great— white or black benches would have too much contrast and would stand out, not in a good way. You have a bit of a boho vibe going on here. A leather chair would look too heavy and stodgy. Look for an upholstered accent chair — maybe pick up a lighter shade of rust from the bedspread. Terracotta?

If the room is too warm for you - don’t look at it. Problem solved.

The grey walls were existing. We’re planning to repaint.

I’ll upload a daytime pic of the room. It’s not quite as warm as these make it look.

Another option would be an accent wall in one of the dominant colors from the bed spread

On the headboard wall

I like that idea but am struggling with the color. we are planning to paint the walls a white/ivory color. There is a slate blue in tje bedding but I dont want it to look like a crayon box with the gold rug. I know a lighter color rug would work but we have a dog who goes in and out to the backyard through our room sometimes so being mindful of dirt being tracked in. She also dug a hole in my nice wool rug so for now, I can only use super low pile washable options.

I really like the rug, would use as a featured jumping off point, and connect/add more impact with new bedding. This will make choosing a bench, chair and paint color much easier as well. There are a few wood tones and styles in room, so try to find items that fit somewhere in-between.

I think you may have been focussing on each item at a time vs having a plan. By seeing the bigger picture, it will be easy to create a lovely room that works well together.

The bedding is new, and what I'm working around so I definitely don't want to change that! But Snowbound is what we have throughout the house so that was what I was thinking I'd use in here too. I like the bench option you pulled. Thanks!

Any interest in doing a more layered look with your bedding, as it will feel more luxurious and inviting.

In regards to the headboard’s fabric, as it’s hardly seen, think it’s more important to complement bedding/rug/paint color.

An off white bench is fine. A white bench in a bedroom is just classic; pretty much regardless of whatever else is going on in a bedroom space, you can use a white bench. Do a Google search for ”white bench in bedroom” images, and you will see what I’m saying is true. Black is classic, too - and I think it would look great in your space; but it depends on the look you want. Either colorway will work in your room. The black would be luxe with the gold - and complement as well as enhance the drama of your art.

Thank you! To be honest, the art is something I already had, and it matched, but it's really up temporarily. I feel like it's a little small for the wall. I saw a larger piece, an antique fabric Indian framed piece, in a friend's house that I LOVE so if I find something similar at some point, I'll swap it out. I just don't want something generic. I'd rather wait and find something I really like. A black bench is really interesting.

You are very kind! I'm definitely not a designer, but just figure I might as well get what I like since I have to live in the room. It may not always match perfectly, but if it feels right, I'm ok with that. I'm trying to upload video that shows the dresser, and how the room looks day time. Ignore the dog bed and old nightstand in the corner (that is where I'm planning to put a chair) :)

The teal chair posted by Maureen, above, would look great in your room! While I love leather chairs, think of how you will use this chair. I, for one, have a habit of tossing my clothes on the side chair in our bedroom. Leather is slippery and things will more likely slide on to the floor. The fabric of this chair ^^ would work well AND be soft to sit on. The color appears to be perfect for your room, too!
