Fru Dagmar Hastrup, a lot tougher than her ethereal blooms would suggest. From Hortico in the nineties. After a few years I had to move her to the front yard, too close to a Norway maple. The roots of that thing are everywhere, so after all these years it is still a small bush. But she blooms her beautiful head off every year, and you can smell her from yards away. I want to get some cuttings and see if I can get another one going, maybe even in the back, though I don’t really have room there. Do rugosas grow well from cuttings?

Beautiful, gd! I think cutting off suckers are the easiest way to propagate rugosas.

I agree with Sheila with the addenum that they need to be own root for that method to work.

That might be a problem. I don’t think Hortico did or does own root. In 30 years never a single sucker. I have wondered why my rugosa is not at all chlorotic in my alkaline soil. I know several around here that always have some yellowish branches. That would also be a problem with cuttings, I realize now. I wonder if Hortico still does graftings on demand. I am pretty sure they offered that once. They are a 20 minute drive from here, so bringing some pieces for grafting would be easy.
