Wednesday's flowers in Indiana

The rain yesterday sure made a difference in how the daylilies looked today. It's sort of hard to be happy about the rain since it was accompanied by storm. The town hasn't recovered yet as there are still a lot of people without power.

It was another good day for photography but as the day went one, not so good for the photographer. The humidity begin to build right before the rain started--not enough to do much good, just make it incredibly sticky even though the temps were in the upper 70's.

The Blessing of Freedom was looking pretty good today. Usually it is quite blotchy. This one is on the way out. It just doesn't perform well enough for us.

I didn't realize that Techny Spider was registered at 18 inches--another one to go.

Witch King of Angmar is starting to bloom.

I like Sophia's Lips. It hasn't done much previously.

Flame of the West

Heavenly Lovers' Lane is a pretty big flower.

Heavenly Mirage is a smaller flower than Rose F. Kennedy but with more vibrant color.

I am really loving the edge no eye look of Indiana Melissa.

She's Got the Look is another nice edge no eye daylily.

I wish I knew what this one is. We have had it for years, bought it with no name early in our daylily growing days. It is a tet and we are getting some great looking flowers out of it when crossed with Samsational. Someone suggested Opera Elegance. We finally tracked that one down and bought it. It was planted last fall and had one flower this year. It's still too early to tell if it truly is Opera Elegance.

We have been looking for a white/purple eyed daylily for a special name for daughter #2. I think we have found it. This is Dr Jules Michael Vinkman X Empire of Dawn and Dusk. (I wish the bug weren't on the pistil.)

This seedling is from our earliest days of hybridizing--year two in fact. It is At Sunset X Forestlake Ragamuffin.

This is Ruffled Strawberry Parfait X Alan Lane Agin.

This is my kind of color! It is Sihir X (Bodacious Bite X Crimson Stories)

That's enough for me.

Great seedlings again. My favorite is vinkman X Empire of Dawn…..I l8ke the purple eye and edge. Indian Melissa is a stunner, love that look!

Wow, that noid is one bright color! I bet those seedlings with Samsational are really nice. Indiana Melissa does make a statement with thst distinctive edge. I agree the Dr. Jules seedling is special. I also like the Strawberry Ruffled Parfait seedling.

I am glad you got some rain. I finally did as well with strong winds. Thankfully no trees down as some people had and no power loss.

My favorite seedling is the one out of Ruffled Strawberry Parfait. Pretty color and wider petals do it for me.........Your Noid is good looking whatever it is. Glad it's useful to you in hybridizing............Maryl

I always like Edge/no eye blooms. I like Flame of the West and Heavenly Lovers. Of the seedlings, and Sihir X (Bodacious Bite X Crimson Stories)

The Blessing of Freedom is so pretty! It's a shame it doesn't perform well for you. I find Flame of the West very inviting today. Perhaps I'm just in the mood for a strong orange. Heavenly Mirage drawn my attention with its vibrant color and huge green throat. Indiana Melissa has strong edge coloring, and I really like the sepals have that edge too! Of the seedlings, my favorite is Ruffled Strawberry Parfait X Alan Lane Agin. The flower you plan to name for Daughter #2 is a pretty one, and the other seedling is nice too!

Again, very interesting seedlings. What is the height of the Empire seedling? I look forward to future posts of She's Got the Look. Or has it shown decisively to be hardy? Strange how this year has affected different cultivars so differently.

Mantis, the scape on the Vimkman X Empire seedling is about 28 inches tall. it is not in a good bed. Previously this bed was in too much shade with pinetree roots too close. It's is covered in grass and weeds. Hopefully when we move it, it might be taller. It has a good scape though. She's Got the Look has been here only one season. I have my doubts about its hardiness. We shall see.
