This sounds very busy to me but I am a minimalist. Perhaps too much depends if your tile is penny hex, waaay too much, or subway, also much, or a larger tile. Cutting the wall in half at 5' up also is too much.

I think if you use a simple tile, and keep the colors simple, I don't necessarily think it would be "too much". Sometimes a large tile is much harder to work with in a small bathroom because layout is crucial and it can cut the bathroom up into large rectangles. But many small bathrooms traditionally were tiled part way up the walls all the way around behind the sinks and toilets. You just want to make sure you don't cut the room exactly in half with the tile wainscot. So, you don't want to go 4 ft up an 8 ft wall or 5 ft up a ten foot wall.
