We had a few sprinkles on Saturday. North of here and south of here there was substantial rain.

I have never seen Chicago Girls look so good. Big and vibrant.

And the same for Heartbeat of Heaven. Filled with blooms.

Tattered Heart. This was a gift from Steve Todd, who gave it to me when I inquired about it (Judy being out of it). But his garage had burned down, and the fire had virtually destroyed the plant. He generously sent me the two-fan remnants he had left.

Battle of the Ages

Captain Freckles is held high. I am really liking it this year. Coloration is about the same as in previous years.

Punxsutawney Phil has had great performance--rich color with large blooms. I realize that many people snicker at an older cultivar, but it has been a joy this year. (One person recently said on Facebook, "I don't buy any cultivars that are less than $50.")

I would never have guessed that was Mary's Baby. A bi-color. Still it has the main petals with that velvety look I like so much about her. In our extreme heat, mine will mostly take on a maroon cast..........As you say, Papaya Gumdrop is on the pale side, but I love the midribs when they have those beautiful blendings of light purples in them. Much like Stephanie Returns. I'd say Papya Gumdrop is a winner even if it's lighter........Wonderful picture of Song of the Sea. How often do dayilies cooperate and group their blooms so nicely?........Maryl

It's your Emmerich that really wow me today. Song of the Sea is my favorite, but From Sea to Shining Sea, Come by Faith and Battle of the Ages are outstanding too! How long have you had Chicago Girls? I just got it this spring, and it had its first blooms last week. Grown in a pot, it only has 4-5 buds per scape. Interesting story about getting Tattered Heart from Steve Todd. Did he lose a lot of plants in the garage fire?

I don't think that most of Steve's plants were next to the garage, but unfortunately, TH was. At least it was his garage, not his house. Chicago Girls was a bit slow to establish here, but its location was probably not ideal (I did do some tree trimming last winter). Other than that, a lot of cultivars are having outstanding blooms. (And a lot are really crappy.) Chicago Girls has in its lineage Todd's Nana Nance and Heartbeat of Heaven, which is also having a great year. I've had CG about 4 years.

Some of these are showing really nice clumps. My Egyptian plagues have included deer, lopidea insects, Japanese beetles and a 4-5 week drought period of no rain (finally did break the no rain last week) so any decent blooms I get excite me!

Tattered Heart is really pretty and seems to have performed well. I really like Song of the

Sea both in color and form. Heartbeat of Heaven shows a lot of buds. Mine did not bloom. Although my grammar police make me cringe, I have always liked Ain’t She Nice. I appreciate a lot of these forms.

We lost the rain we had been getting, very dry now.

Come By Faith is my absolute favorite of these. Blue Crane, Chicago Girls and Indy Long Legs are next, but so many of these are so pretty.
