Coreopsis recommendations?

I have a couple of coreopsis plants that I really like. Have had them forever. Now there are newer varieties that look intriguing, but I wonder about their ability to thrive and last over time here in New England (MA zone 6 now, apparently).

Any recommendations as to varieties that are working for you? New types or older ones, any and all..

I did purchase a couple of hard-to-resist newer ones recently, bi-colors of delicious raspberry/cream. And once again I couldn't resist the one known as Leading Lady Sophia, even tho that one has not been happy here in my gardens in recent years, darn it (wanted it as my granddaughter's name is Sophia).

If it's based on a taste test, please allow me to go ask my deer... I didn't get to see a single bloom this year. sigh. I still grow 'Early Sunrise', so I'm sure I'm no help to you. Love those golden yellow, double blooms. Guess the deer do too.

Thanks, rob - I do like your sense of humor! Sorry about your local 'rats with hooves', as my sister calls them -- for me they have been extra pernicious this year for so many plants. Grrrr.

I have a plethora of yellow in my gardens, all year, and was hoping to find some color variety within the coreopsis group that would offer something different. I do love the paler yellows ('Full Moon" and "Moonbeam") and the brightness of 'Zagreb', which I have had for decades. But I have tried a few of the bi-colors of coreopsis in the recent past and have been disappointed that they are not reliable in returning.

Perhaps I am doomed to disappointment. Ah, well.

Roxanna, I am sorry but I never have had much luck with the hybrid coreopsis I've tried and I did try the pinks and the bi-colors. I don't even remember what the problem was, but they just didn't perform and I don't have them any more. Last year I was tempted at the nursery to bring home a coreopsis because I saw one with larger flowers that were a pale yellow. The foliage mildewed on me at the end of the season. I was so surprised but I had planted it in the garden. I bought it late, like the beginning of July so it had been sitting around the nursery for awhile. I thought for sure it wouldn't even come back this year, but so far it has come back and formed a nice neat little mound and is pushing out flower buds. Hasn't quite started flowering yet....which seems late to me. Happily not a touch of mildew so far.

But as you can see, not the color you are looking for and I haven't had it long enough to know about performance. I just thought I'd share my experience. It's called 'Uptick Cream'. I used to grow 'Early Sunrise' too and I enjoyed that. It was a real performer. I changed my growing style and the coreopsis was out for awhile. Now I'm in the mood for the mounding coreopsis. IF I can find performers, so if you do find something, please share.. :-)
