If you search “ barstools with fretwork backs” a lot of bar and counter height stools come up at various price points. I think something similar to your table chairs would be pretty.

I'd go with something super simple so the chairs don't compete with the counter stools.

Based on your photo, I think a simple wooden saddle stool would be a better choice for your kitchen. They are comfy and can be tucked under the counter when not in use. I'm assuming you have a pretty busy traffic area behind where the stools would go.

You could do painted or stained. Cream-painted wood stools would disappear when not in use. Stained wood stools would look nice with the rest of your kitchen.

I see a floral valance...in a traditional kitchen??: )

..

I have these from Jessica Charles. Very comfortable and you can specify different fabric on seat and backrest.

The simple saddle is ALWAYS great, as mentioned above, it competes not at all, and if everyone is determined to make an island into the all the time dining table? It was never intended to be that.

It's a perch......: )

Thank you!! I appreciate all the great input. Are my floral valences not a good way to go, as mentioned above? I’m probably stuck with them for now but going forward I’d love to know a better way to go.

With the size of the island and the creamy counter and base, I’d look for smaller stools that blended in and also suited your kitchen’s traditional feel. Try removing the valances and after a few days reassess if you even need anything.

Thank you!! I appreciate the input!

I like your valances. They look well done and they look great in your space.

Many people who visit here go for more modern or boho styles. Your traditional style isn't as trendy as other styles but looks good.

I'd examine the wood valance over your sink to see if that could be easily popped off. It would brighten things up over there.

I have tried to get it off, asked a couple of ppl but seems it’s not possible. I totally agree, I wish it could be removed! Thank you for your input, I appreciate it!! I probably will keep my valences up, I thought they added a little warmth and color, even if they’re out of style 😊

The wood valance CAN come off-

But it will mean some work via a crown mokding fix and also the skin side of the cabinets.

As to floral and valance?!

Do you! Does it make you smile?

There’s your answer!

You mean counter height stools? No backs, IMO, you want to tuck them under and you don't want to compete with the chairs. Ya...too many backs.

I see you got a new rug since your last post. How about using the rug/texture for the stools?
