What type of tile? What size tile? Existing concrete? How you are speaking about installing? Wet or Dry what?

Porcelain tile is suitable for exterior use, over an intact, non damaged, well draining, substrate, with the proper prep, proper trim pieces, proper setting materials, and proper installation. If any one of those is absent, you will have issues.

Thanks Minardi. It is a concrete slab deck so no drainage. But it is completely covered by a 2nd storey concrete deck.

There is no product better suited to exterior use. You just have to install it correctly. You need a better contractor if yours doesn't understand how to do this.

Pictures of your porch, a description of its current condition, and the climate you live in would be helpful.

I very much wanted to do a brick look porcelain tile overlay of our solid concrete front porch. Our house was built in 1965. Concrete was in decent shape, but did NOT have the proper slope for drainage, and we live in 4 season climate with lots of snow & freezing temps.

We ended up using a "polyaspartic" coating in a custom color - professionally done. It comes with a 15 year warranty.

(Polyaspartic is a newer coating - it is NOT epoxy.)

Is that different from the Polyaspartic garage floor product?

It's the same product, but our front porch was done with a custom mix color and a much smaller size flake than what is common in a garage. (There was about a $200 up charge.)

IIRC, some franchises can also do techniques that look like tile lines. And some have solid colors and/or metallics with swirled designs, etc.

Do you mind me asking what the price was/size of your porch?

The porch area is about 4' wide by 36' long, plus one step. They also did the front face of the porch (vertical surfaces add to the price). And we had them do the adjacent sidewalk area - I'd have to pull the invoice to know for sure, but my best guess is about $3600 total.

But it's been about 3 years.

We had our garage floor done about 2 or 3 years before that.

Lots of options available - like a coved edge on the garage walls, etc., so price per sq ft is probably the best way to compare initially.

No, about 45 minutes north of Minneapolis. We have one of the main mfrs of the product in the cities. I'll try to find the website, as I think it lists dealers/applicators.
