RE: Indian Giver. Sometimes for reasons not apparent a daylily just gets old and no longer at it's best. Maybe it's the soil, maybe it's one too many winter set back or other unexpected weather conditions, maybe soil born pathogens. However, even in pots, where the soil is constantly refreshed each year, it can happen. So, if in doubt, and with room being at a premium, I will just let the daylily go. Then if a year or two passes and I can't do without it I will re-order fresh stock. Just a thought.........As to the ones you have now, I must say they are very colorful collection for this late in the season. I like your Goldner seedling. He and Klehm developed some beautiful colors in my eyes, but unfortunately they don't hold well in our heat. Lucky you, both hybridizers should do very well for you........Maryl

I, too, love Forest God. It is simple but has lots of colors going on. I have two clumps, one in sun and one in partial shade-they are pretty in both situations. Creamsicle Candy is a pretty one. Mighty Chestnut looks good in clump form. Such a chore in rearranging gardens!

My favorites today are Creamsicle Candy and Magic Dancer. Witch King of Angmar is looking good.

Maryl, I have been thinking over yourcomment about Indian Giver, having the same problem with Moonlit Masquerade. I am leaning toward removing bothe of them. I still have a few to move and a few to remove. I also have more tall phlox volunteers to remove. Doing a little at a time and sometimes changing my mind……it never ends.

Two of the last few blooms on Tall Dark Strangers, it had a great season again!

I was enabled to get Tall Dark Stranger after your repeated photos. It has not disappointed! It is in a section of a bed where all plants finish blooming at the same time so I often don’t go in to deadhead at the end. It always has 8-10 bee pollinated seed pods on it. So very fertile at least one way!!

Sherry, as ususal, every one of these is a stunner. I don’t grow them (not enough sun), but I sure love looking at them. The intricacy of the leaf patterns and edges are so delicate. And I wonder how do the hybridizers create that???

I know what you mean about getting rid of one you've had a long time. Last year and now again this year I've been doing that. It's hard but I have enough seedlings that will need the space I have to.

I agree Maryl, that sometimes some daylilies will no longer perform no matter what. Hard to know.

Usually, a daylily will be rejuvenated by division, but it will require patience. Creamsicle I see is out of Sherry Candy and is a Beck. Forest God and Tall Dark S catch my eye. I too have Witch King. Its color is good in the high shade I have it. Not six inches here this year.

Very good looking lates! My favorites are the new one, Creamsicle Candy and Forest God. Goldner sdlg has very pretty colors and I like the form, those usually open well.

I have noticed the same thing here what Maryl said about the daylilies deteriorating..

And I have 3 questions:

What are you going to do with the daylilies you are removing?? If Brad sees that, I would like to know the answer too.

You said lates are 3 weeks early, so they usually start in August? Mine are on time, mid July, as usual, but the EMs and Mids were a bit earlier this year.

And third, how is mosquito situation there? I too (desperately) need to work in the yard when I am able to, but it's about impossible because of them.

Nat, Laura Harwood started today, I dont usually see it until first week in August. Same with Orchid Corsage it started a few days ago. The list goes on with early blooming…..Mary Todd always starts July 1, it started blooming the the second week in June. I have very few that werent at least 2 weeks early.

Mosquitos havent been a big problem here, very little rain the past month.

The daylilies I removed went to compost etc. Nobody I know wants them. Can’t get mysellf to sell the bad performers. I have lost patience with the poor performers already…..

One would think that IL and IA bloom time are very similar yet I do not remember ever having daylilies starting in August. They usually end by the end of the first week. Not a lot of separation here between EMs and Ms and Ms and Ls.

That's great about the mosquitos, they are horrendous here, clouds swarming, again do not remember ever having it that bad.

Yeah, I think I will have to do the same with mine, if I get to do it. Yes, nobody wants them here either. I however must downsize..
