Color help, please!

I can't afford to rip this kitchen out so looking for a color to paint these cabinets to detract argentine from these counter tops. I was considering SW Drift of the Mist but it's very close to the backslash color. Would a charcoal make it look too dark? There are two sliding glass doors in this room

You need to post photos to get even the barest of advice.

If you dislike the counters then save and replace them. right now paint the walls a neutral off white. Create better goals than something backwards like spending a lot of time/ money to paint decent cabinets to try to avoid your primary dislike of something else. Are there two floors? one looks yellow… the other is reddish. new lighting would be a very constructive goal

The cabinets look to be a nice wood, and they work well with the wood floor.

If that were my home, I'd change out the counter top and backsplash. Then I'd paint the walls a different color. The blue doesn't work with anything in the space.

I'd also replace the lighting--not a fan of the track lighting or the fixture with that style cabinets.

^ agree, I would paint the walls and change all the lighting

I agree with everything. The blue walls are going! I just purchased this place and this blue is in every room in the house. I 'm going to look into the cost to just change the counter top and backsplash. I have a great painter that does cabinets so I thought it would be an easier, faster, cleaner temporary change so I could live with the space before I redo it completely.

I have high hats and pendant lights going in

You might consider a honed black stone on both the counter top and as a backsplash. Jet Mist is a beautiful black with subtle white swirls. It would work very nicely with the cabinets.

Or do a plain white tile on the b/s. Here are some inspiration photos:

Argentine means something resembling silver. You want to paint the cabinets so the counters look less silver? That looks like Santa Cecelia granite with tans, pinks, blacks, no silver there. Can you articulate the problem you see more clearly?

Condo kitchens can be challenging. If you could snap your fingers and have that space look the way you want, what would it look like? Because if you Google your granite with black cabinets, the images you get are these, and I doubt this is your dream.

After you paint over the blue, the ceiling needs to be repainted as well. Then start collecting inspiration images so you know what the goal is, and make a plan.

First paint the blue walls. It’s hard to see color options for your kitchen with that distraction.

I agree with Diana’s ideas. Keep the wood and remove the countertop and backsplash. You may be able to use remnants. Measure your countertop and go to stone yards to see what they have. I love the darker colors but TAKE A DOOR WITH YOU. You never know what will look good with your wood.

If the best stone option is a it over budget, you can install the countertop and live with a painted backsplash (use a slightly glossy easy-to-clean paint) for a long time until you get the funds together. I did that for two years.

Another idea is to take down the two-tiered part of the countertop and extend it out on one level. You can get backless stools to shove under it so they’re not in the way of the opening.

Clean your cabinets. They will show their color better when you’re shopping for a countertop. You’ve got a cute space!

    Yes, keep the wood.

Here are drift of mist walls with a cloe style backsplash and a white quartz. You can see DOM is nearly white. You could test it next to your backsplash but that splash is the second worst thing in your kitchen IMO so I don't know how hard I'd try to get a paint that works with it.

I think the black would also look good on the counters.

Your layout looks pretty functional to me, but if you have bigger plans to expand your kitchen maybe hold off on anything except painting the walls.

I agree! The backsplash is the next worst. The blue will be gone easily. Changing the counter tops will be more $ than painting, again just so I can live with the space until I redo the kitchen and extend actual "kitchen" space and add storage. Hadn't thought about painting the backsplash. Thank you for the suggestions

Your backsplash colour seems to have a pinkish tone that doesn't coordinate with the granite counter top. If you don't want to re-tile (I suggest a simple white subway tile that coordinates with the white paint colour), you can install beadboard instead of tiles. The beadboard is green in my inspiration picture but since it would be in an all green section in your kitchen I show it in the same colour as the walls. I show black as an accent in the lighting and counter stools.

If you do proceed with painting your cabinets, Sea Serpent seems to be too blue for your granite. I ran your granite through SW’s Color Snap app, and it suggests Tricorn Black as a match:

The cabinets are GREAT! They are your starting point. Do not paint them. Just prime the blue walls first. That will give you a fresh perspective on what is possible without that yelling in your face. Then deal with the lighting. Eventual goals are countertop and backsplash. A light creamy color on the splash, and a taupey cream on the splash keep to the warm palette without being "brown".

This can also be a nice combination with your granite countertops:

You can also achieve a fresh new look simply by painting the walls white, replacing the backsplash with a white subway tile in the same white as the walls, replace your lighting and knobs for black ones.

Also take a look at SW Antique for the walls and ivory tiles for the backsplash. I think the warmth of those will go better with the countertop.

I think you can accomplish a look you like by changing the backspash and painting the walls. I like the colors suggested. I think a sage might work, too. I would replace the refrigerator with a counter depth one.
