Amazing transformations using AI

Anyone who knows me knows that I am usually not eager to jump on new technology bandwagons. That goes for AI.

BUT I came across this article where AI was used to visually represent rooms in different colorways and patterns. It is really amazing!

https://www.theglampad.com/2024/07/artificial-intelligence-meets-interior-design.html

What do you all think?

So many of the AI rooms have this weird Alice in Wonderland look/feel to them. Sometimes you don't notice at first glance, but then your senses feel that something is slightly off and not natural. Sometimes it take a few minutes to spot the oddities, but they are there.

WOW I do not like any of those but if a client wants this done I guess it is a good idea. I think they are all over the top so not IMO very helpful for a regular client .

Exactly, lala Girl! Of course her choices are not to everyone's taste, especially if you love modern. But the technology could be applied to any home in any style/color/pattern.

Great article, Diana! Thank you for sharing.

Amazing rooms... I actually love her traditional/eclectic style, as well as the bold colors. Fearless.

I love her style too, and the colors are so vibrant! In reality, her actual house is not as color-fearless as her AI rooms, though! You can see it here:

Yes, it’s scaled back, but still a dynamic use of color. Definitely more subtle than the AI renderings! But in both cases, “real life” as well as the AI creations, I think there is a sophistication to what she is doing.

Thank you for providing this other link, also, Diana. Interesting to see.

I am not sure if what I am about to describe is AL, or not.

In the past 3 years, I have had two older relatives (60's - 70's) put their homes on the market. Different realtors, different states. With both listings, their realtors posted photos of the original furnished rooms. Then they also posted touched-up photos of the rooms with completely different furnishings (sofa's chairs, wall color, art work, rugs... you name it!) to show how the home 'could look'. This without asking the homeowners permission. The homeowners had their feelings hurt. And rightfully so!!!

You know that show when the female twins come in and redo your 'hard to sell' home to help it sell? Some thing done, only on the screen. Did the 'touched up' photos help the homes sell any better? No telling because both homes sold pretty quickly and for asking price or above.

I don't know if what you've described is AI or not, nhb22. But even before AI became common, the real estate photographers could drop in fireplaces, virtual furniture, sunny days, etc. Not sure if the homeowner's permission is required. Perhaps an attorney could weigh in?

If something is marked “enhanced by AI” then you’re probably covered legally. We all know that AI can be very helpful when people can’t visualize a concept.

I think the rooms she created are quite interesting - even if they are “over the top” for most people.

In ten years the tech will be so good, you won't ever be able to discern a difference.

Compare it to the bread box size and limitations of the first cell phone to an I phone. Except it will be three times sooner, and there will be just as much pro......and con: )

I read this post and thought I would create something with AI. Gemini came up with several rooms for me using this same prompt:

"Designer interior living room white room boho earth tone fabrics and spring green accent color. Plants and sunlight streaming in. Abstract framed landscape over the sofa. floral side chairs and glass coffee table"

I used Google Slides free presentation software online. User friendly. There is an option icon to use Gemini AI to create a slide with generated images. I selected Photography for the style.

Try it and post your prompt and results here! : )

Thank you for posting that link, @tracefloyd! Very nice option. And you and AI created some very nice visuals!

I like the earth tones and spring green color palette you chose. And AI really translated your vision; I think the fact that you were so detailed in your idea/description likely helped in getting such nice results.

I was inspired by your post, and decided to accept your challenge, and try it myself! I went to the link you provided, but wasn't able to gain access. :( Maybe because all I use these days is an iPhone. I did a quick Google search, and found another site that I could easily use on the Web plus on my iPhone.

Not to hijack Diana’s thread - but just to explain the palette I chose. My current personal ”dilemma” is that I may be purchasing a dark grey sofa. Not my original plan... I had been planning on a gold colored sofa. I have yellow/gold walls, and have been planning on a gold and black theme. So... it’s an interesting challenge with this latest dark grey sofa development. I figured this would be a good time for me to get all the *extra* intelligence I can get! :)

Anyway.... on my first attempt on this AI site- plugging in “dark grey sofa with gold walls” - I got this:

So... I took it upon myself to add in some gold walls. Very sloppy. But still ok... since I was thinking about maybe adding a gold throw!

    Then, I tried again. :)

I used, ”Gold walls with dark grey sofa. Glam.”

“Gold walls with dark grey sofa. Vintage boho”

“Gold walls with dark grey sofa. Animal prints.”

”Gold walls dark grey sofa. MCM.”

“Gold walls with dark grey sofa. Grand Millennial.”

“Gold walls with dark grey sofa. Boho chic.”

A lot of fun... And helps to confirm many of my ideas - and definitely also gives me some ideas!!

I don't feel like you hijacked the thread, freedomplace, it's amazing to see what you and tracefloyd did! It's so helpful to actually see what your ideas could look like.

It's strange though that you got gray walls when you asked for gold walls in some of the renderings. Do you know why that would have happened?

Thank you so much, Diana! :)

I don’t understand why it happens... with getting the grey walls when you ask for gold🤷🏻‍♀️- but it happens to me at times on Amazon’s AI, too! So I wasn’t so surprised, when it happened on this other site. I have been thinking that maybe AI cannot yet fully get on board with gold walls. And then, actually requesting the gold and grey together is even more confusion.😂

I thought I would try specific paint colors and furnishings. It works! Here is my prompt.

Designer Living room painted in Farrow and Ball French Quarter Gold 287. A dark gray Le Corbusier LC3 sofa, a white Flokati area rug, gold and glass coffee table. Eames plywood chair. Sunlight and plants, gold and black accessories pale oak floors. Floor to ceiling linen sheers. Large klimpt painting.

Change your wording to "Dark grey sofa with Gold walls" The program may be picking up on “walls with dark grey" in your “Gold walls with dark grey sofa".

This is incredible, tracefloyd! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. 🙏🏼

All of your selections are fantastic! Love the F&B French Quarter Gold. They have some amazing colors in the yellow gold family - Savage Ground and Cats Paw are also beautiful. The room does get a lot of sunlight. High ceilings and two tall windows. Love the plants! I was thinking maybe a shag rug could be an option, if I use a rug - and I love the white flokati! Am also considering a glass table! In a round, amber glass. I have no little ones afoot, so it’s ok for me to do a tempered glass; wood or a metallic might be another possibility, but I‘ve been leaning toward the glass. Love the sofa and chairs. And the art!

This is brilliant, tracefloyd. Thank you, again.

I’m now addicted to AI. And it is all your fault, Diana! :)

I spent some time earlier today on the AI site I found yesterday. The first prompt I tried was, “Gold Walls. Grey sofa. Traditional Classic style.” As you can see, AI totally denied my grey sofa request!

Then, tried it again just using the wording, ”Traditional style.”

This one below is, ”Traditional Hollywood Regency.”

Enter the name and fabric of your sofa into the prompt as I did with the Le Corbusier above.

This feature will be very handy for clients that already own specific pieces. Perfect to create concepts using their furnishings...even while in conference.

If you notice, I pretty much just listed the items in the room...and added ambient light. Doesn't take long.

Hi tracefloyd. Thank you! I didn't even think about trying that on the site I’ve been using, but it is such an excellent idea! I almost wrote another follow-up comment the other day to tell you that I think it is beyond amazing that we can potentially put in specific furnishings, lights/lighting, art, plus specific wall colors, etc. Unbelievable. I don’t know if it will work on the site I’ve been using, but I can try it. I had tried being a bit more specific and asked for divider screens in a couple of my prompts, but didn't really get any. On the last one I did yesterday, my prompt was: “Gold walls. Dark grey sofa. Black wing chair. Gold divider screen.” And I got this:

No wing chair; and not exactly a divider screen, although close. But still very helpful for me! I love the AI site I’m using. I just have to see how extensive the capabilities are there.

This AI is amazing. And I also have to mention @Paul F., because he has really been the town crier on this one! 😂 He has been faithfully touting AI and telling us that we’d better get on board!

Thank you again for the beautiful rendering, tracefloyd. :)

Those are brilliant, @wdccruise . Startling and graphic - Alfred Hitchcock type stuff - but so creative! And the victrola is inspired!

Really shows the infinite possibilities and power of this AI technology.

I love all birds, including pigeons. When I lived on UWS - every day, I used to go to Riverside Park very early in the morning and feed the birds. And there, it was mostly pigeons, and some sparrows. The seagulls never really joined the party. One morning, I was walking into the park and a little girl was screaming to her mother, ”Mommy, Mommy the birds are following her!!” There was a huge flock of birds flying overhead. I never really noticed it so much until the little girl said that. I just knew that they were coming for the food. But they did follow me in every morning.

  • last year

Not even tuppence. :) I had a supplier who made sure that I had tons of free bread every day. A majority of the bread was seeded... baguettes, etc. The birds loved it. So did the squirrels! Sometimes it got to be a brawl between the two camps! But there was really plenty for everybody. :)

I think the AI on the site I’ve been using has pretty much had it with me continually asking for rooms with dark grey sofas. I don’t know if it’s on overload or trying to be funny or what. What is this ?

I love the style, though. This is Industrial Glam. That is what I had requested and AI sure got that part right.

I'm just now seeing this thread, thanks Diana! We have several rooms I'd like to refresh and this tool may well help inform and expedite the process.

I like how Jen uses bold colors and avoids overloading the designs with excessive patterns which together can be too much. One note is that many of her images feature windows with idyllic scenes outside that (of course!) perfectly complement the interior decor. I'm a sucker for views and always try to get interior decor to connect with adjacent spaces but sometimes it's hard to work around Mother Nature in all seasons.

Once I tried AI out for music projects, it changed how I work creatively. I don’t always have time or the right gear to produce custom tracks, so it was amazing to be able to quickly generate background music that still fits my style. It’s saved me during tight deadlines when I needed music fast but didn’t want to mess with licensing issues.

I’ve been messing around with this ai music generator that lets you customize songs pretty easily. It’s pretty useful when you're juggling a bunch of creative tasks at once.
