TV Too Large Above Fireplace?

Hello!

I am trying to figure out if my TV is too large above my tall fireplace mantle. The TV as pictured is a 65”, but we are trying to decide if we should size down to the 55”. Thank you!

Such a pretty fireplace! Not sure about size, but it looks like a really uncomfortable angle to watch TV. Is there anywhere else in the room it could go?

Much too high for any sized TV. Other options of where to place it in the room? Can you place it to the side of the fireplace with an arm to angle if needed?

    Pretty wall color and fireplace.

Agree with the above comments. Any TV up there is just too high to be comfortable viewing.

Yes it's too big, looks too high and detracts from your beautiful fireplace.

People put their TVs too high all the time and they aren't suffering from it. Ours is too high in our living room as well. But we're not watching hours of TV. If you want this to be a cuddle up on the couch and watch movies all day TV, I might consider a different location.

If you want to keep it there, get a 55" (max) frame TV with a decoframes frame (a nice gold frame would look good if that goes with your decor) and have it be art when it's not on. Caveat to that TV is you need a tech tube and a cabinet or other to house the "guts" of the TV.

I would use painters tape and tape out different TV sizes to see how they look. You might want even smaller than 55.

Is there anywhere else to place the TV? Photos of the other walls might get you some suggestions.

Seems very odd to me when people mount their tvs so high. They watch standing up? They always watch from a recliner, leaned way back? They’re very tall? They like the bar/pool hall look? They don’t want their kids to damage it?

Maybe someone that likes it that way could tell me. There might be a logical explanation but I don‘t know what it is.

Littlebug, my DH wouldn't go that high, but he always wants to mount them higher than I would want. He reclines back on a sofa with his feet up on table/ottoman, so his eyes are looking at a spot much higher on a wall. We had lots of discussions on the topic when the larger plasma TVs first came out!

The only one I have mounted higher than normal is in the master bedroom, as we only watch it when using the treadmill, with handles and touch-screen that would block the TV if it was placed lower.

The tv height depends on how far back seating is. There is a calculation techs use for that.

I do agree that smaller with a frame would look nice. You can make the frame just keep it simple.
