I planted three hot banana pepper plants mid-May and was wondering when they would start to show fruit. Then overnight, this appeared.

As this is my first foray into peppers, when should I pluck this guy? Do they ripen on the plant or the counter? While i imagine i will pickle some of them, are these any good raw?
