Floorplan please. Get rid of the bookcase, it’s not attractive and if you have open shelving, you have to keep it neat at all times.

Thanks for the feedback, but the bookcase is special to my wife and stays. Books are stacked on it because our 1 year old loves to pull at them. Added a general floor plan!

First of all, I would get a larger rug. You want at least two legs of all seating to be on the rug, and it will group the space better. Is this your main living space/family room? Also, would the bookcase fit on the left side of the fp where you suggested? It doesn’t seem like it would from the floor plan, but I wasn’t sure if the floor plan was to scale. If you are choosing a curved sofa, another option to make the space more communal is adding two backless stools/ottomans opposite the couch.

I feel like a curved sofa doesn’t really suit this room. I’d add a coffee table , a larger rug, and maybe a lamp on a small end table by the bookcase. If you need another seat, a petite accent chair facing the fireplace or angled toward the couch on the lower right corner of the rug (in the diagram above) could work. No room for a reading nook by the bookcase as far as I can tell.

You have a lot of nice pieces but they lose their impact because of the excessive amount of stuff. Clean off the fireplace of all the little things on the mantle and hearth and let the larger pieces above it stand alone. Get a most substantial credenza for the antique radio and hide the albums. I think a rug with a softer pattern would be nice. The geometric pattern contributes to the sense that there are too many items in the room. When you choose a new sofa, pick one that has slim arms to maximize seating are and minimize bulk.
