Blooming on a sweltering day

It's just too hot to be outside today. Bob and I went to work out in the morning and didn't make it into the garden until about 2 o'clock. We didn't stay out long but managed to get a few photos.

I have posted much because we have been super busy. We managed to get all of our seedlings planted in three days--a record for us. We only planted about 650 this year. I think next year's total will be small too. So far, the pods I have harvested have bad seeds. When it's this hot and dry, even if seeds set, the scapes and pods dry before the seeds are mature. It's ok if we have no seedlings next year. We have plenty of select seedlings to choose from.

Beastmaster is a great grower, but it's short and the color is weak.

Bob came in the other day and said he had an orange daylily he wanted to buy. He selected two from the hybridizer and then the hybridizer sent him this one, Gwaya May, as a bonus. We think we are going to like it.

This late blooming dip is called Take a Ribbing.

Twisted Peppermint is new to the garden and is still in a pot.

Vampire Fish was new last season.

Last Man Standing X Cactus Blossom might be an intro next season.

Another prospect for introduction in 2025 is Pineapple Bites X Wandering Werribee. It is reblooming--yay!

It seems like I don't show many purple seedlings. This late bloomer is Ruffled Strawberry Parfait X Spacecoast Alpha Wolf.

This might be an intro in 2025 also. It is Strawberry Romance X Empire of Dawn and Dusk.

That's all for me. We need rain again--maybe get some tomorrow.

The Strawberry Romance seedling has good color. Looks a bit on the small side and quite recurved (not usually a positive for me, but depends). So far, I am disappointed in the plant habit of Vampire. Seems very upfacing and substance not as good as that of sibling Larry's TB.

The edge on your seedling of Ruffled Strawberry Parfait is great. I like the color too.....Whoever or whatever a Gwaya May is, I like the color. The simple form doesn't bother me either if other stats come into play (bloom size and bud count for instance)....Twisted Peppermint has appeal. Is the base color supposed to be white or pale yellow?...........Maryl

Your seedlings look good. Although not a huge fan of teeth, I think I could be persuaded by the RSP seedling because the strong edge is such a standout. The Strawberry Romance seedling is also a pretty one. I can see where the Pineapple Bites seedling would check the registration box on looks!

Great looking seedlings again! The Ruffled Strawberry Parfait X is a favorite of these. To my eye that is the best toothy daylily I have seen, nice accomplishment. I also like the Strawberry Romance X …more to my personal liking.

The seedlings are beautiful. I especially like Last Man Standing X Cactus Blossom and Strawberry Parfait X Spacecoast Alpha Wolf. Rebloomers are always nice and the color of Strawberry Romance X Empire of Dawn and Dusk. is very nice.

It sounds like you may have a lot of 2025 intros. All the seedlings look good. My favorite is the one out of SC Alpha Wolf. Does Alpha Wolf multiply for you? I've still just one fan of it - same as last year.
