Lovely blooms,Maryl! I agree with you about Johnny Cash….looks sort of sad. Was it splotchy or faded for you? Sweetest Name I know is my favorite of these. How many daylilies are you housing this winter?

Sherry: Johnny Cash was like almost all the Stamiles I have tried over the years. Yes it was splotchy, but what almost all have in common is that when it gets hot, the petals loose substance and become limp noodles...... I don't know how many I will get into the garage. Some of them can stay outside until it dips down into the single digits and then I'll try and cram a few more in...........Kate: I remember you saying that your SNIK was a good one for you too......I showed Mary's Baby at the end of a hot day because I think it's important to inform people what daylillies can look like when not in ideal conditions. I was impressed that she wasn't a faded out limp blob after 104 degrees all day.......Debra: Sitting On A Cloud looked better then I had hoped. If this is the first year for Johnny Cash it is worth giving it another year to settle. It took a couple here but it is a lovely bloom, Maryl.

Sweetest Name is beautiful, such a nice color and form. The not supposed to be double has lovely colors too. I love your picture of Sitting On a Cloud framed by the yellow flowers! And I actually like Johnny Cash :)

Kay. Johnny Cash has been pitched. I didn't see it improving for my climate, and wasn't happy enough with it overall to ship it north.........Thank you Brad. It's one of my backbone daylilies......Nat: I appreciate your comment. I have very few (about 3 or 4) in ground. Our soil and weather are not appreciated by daylilies as in ground plants......Maryl

Yes, Johnny Cash was awful here. Didn't thrive and not at all heat tolerant. Main problem was hardiness. Online Shopper I see is a smaller one. Nice pic of Sitting on a Cloud.

Thanks, Maryl. Was just wondering how those (in ground) were doing. Also, as an expert in overwintering in pots I'd like to ask you a couple of questions - is your garage attached, one, and 2 - when do you take them out? I tried twice, they are alive in the spring, I get them out on the patio and they promptly die. I have however overwintered in pots half buried and under pile of leaves and those were ok.

Mantis: Johnny Cash was a bonus plant as I have seldom ordered an Evergreen. Not never ordered one mind you, but seldom. Interesting to hear how it did for you.......Nat: I have an attached garage in zone 7A. ....Hardening off the daylilies in the garage come spring is a labor of love I will tell you. In and out they go some times on a daily basis. I try and take them out fairly early before they start growing much new foliage inside the garage. The new foliage grown in a protected setting such as a garage is weak and floppy and once exposed to the outdoors can easily die....... Burying them in the ground in their pots over winter is a good method I've been told. Your winters are so much colder then mine though that I really can't contribute much on that method. Also, try and let them go as dormant as possible before you take them inside. I try and take them in in the fall after all the leaves have died back (if mother nature allows).......Maryl
