Just my opinion, but I feel like ceiling fans should be just that- Ceiling fans. Not a light source. In my new build I have many recessed lights in the ceilings, and when I began to shop for fans, I never found one I liked that had lights. I decided instead to choose ceiling fans with no lights, and let my recessed lighting and lamp lighting do all the work.

In my old house, I had fans with lights and never turned on the lights.

No light on the fan. Maybe add a couple more recessed lights to the room, but have them wired to a separate switch. Add dimmers to all the switches.

Well, the overhead light with the fan is helpful when cleaning and possibly other tasks. But I like to have overhead lighting for such purposes even though I might not use them daily.
