More seedlings 2024

Somehow I ended up with way too many seedlings for my very small yard. Majority of them will not be able to show their potential, because they grow on top of each other in too much shade. I will try to post some 2nd-3rd year blooming and a few old ones.

#1

Heartbeat of Heaven x Stranger in a strange land

opens well which is important to me, I like the triangular throat, not a lot of buds

#2

seedling x Kingdom Without End

these two are similar, this one has less edge but more contrast-y watermark

#3

seedling x Kingdom Without End

this has more edge, both good height, open well

Two which I like the most from All Things To All Men crosses

#4

the only dark one, good size, good height

#5

the fanciest edge, which in my climate means frequent tangling (but so do a lot of those edge-y ones here)

#6

Soli Deo Gloria seedling

blooms later, size like Soli, pretty tall and pretty monstrous fans and foliage lol,

got the sickness so only 2 scapes left out of five; was one of the best budded last year, 23 and 20 on best scapes, this year these two remaining scapes have 17 buds each

#7

this one is from one of my first crosses with Heartbeat of Heaven

average height and size and opens later in the day most of the time, I just like the colors, both in hot weather and after cooler nights (darker)

#8

Blood Sweat and Tears x Red Friday #3

good plant; I like when it has this look

here it is on the right for truer color (Ruby Spider front and Yellow Titan on the left)

And 3 of my oldest seedlings at this point, and why I keep them

    #9

this is also Red Friday cross and my only light pink, very Not photogenic, probably because of the veins and somewhat crepe-y texture; blooms a bit later and when it gets going they look like a light pink cloud

it sometimes does not open its sepals all the way and I've been trying to improve it somehow but no results so far, always something else gets a priority

    #10

because it is late, like the last daylily to start blooming, which here means July 20 or so (yes, rather compressed season)

it usually has 10 buds but lots of scapes. Color though is like some purples fading at the end of the day. So I have been trying to improve it.

Cross with All Things to all men gave me a 40 inch big plant big bloom well budded seedling but the colors are not to my liking - medium purple with dark band and veins, and not late

And with Soli Deo Gloria - better, it's a dark purple self and also late but low bud count and pretty short so far

    #11

because it is also late but not as late as previous, and it's a bit more interesting looking

    #12

this was short, small and almost a sure candidate for culling. Moving to a better spot worked that time - everything is good now, early but long blooming. It was the best budded of all of the garden (well except Lullaby Baby) last year or two years ago. Got the sickness this year and has just finished but still with a good bc on some scapes

I don't want / need any more seedlings because I am completely out of room, and pretty limited in what I can do in the yard anymore, but I kinda do want more. They are fun.

    So true.

    Thanks for looking!

I like #1, hope the bud count improves.

I like #5 with that cool edge….has it hung up for you, or are you concerned it will?

I think #8 is my favorite, lovethe color and shape.

I understand why you are keeping the lates…….anything that blooms late is a probable keeper here. Like you I have limited space. Never tried the seedling thing because of my space and my limited patience.

All of those merit attention....... Number 8 makes me smile. I don't know if I like it, but it does catch my eye.....I like number 5 too because of that grayed lavender color. Number two makes my list because of the pansy face. I like that pattern........And, I had to laugh at your cartoon. That's exactly what I go through in the winter with catalogs. I'm not just daylilies, I want it all - lol..........Maryl

    Thank you Sherry!

I'll find room for #1 even with low bud count :) but I do too hope it improves.

#5 hangs up, yes. I do not want to have only edge-less and UFs so I tolerate those that hang up.

Thanks for the like on #8 :)

    Thank you Maryl!

I like #5's color, I know pretty much anything will reduce that edge but probably won't try. Oh what a nice description - pansy face.

Haha I Love the cartoon, and yes, not just daylilies!

Nat, once again, you present lovely seedlings. All have something to like and favorites would be hard to pick but I really like #1, 3, and 5.

Wow, 1-7 & 9 are all beautiful. Great colors and forms. If I have to choose favorites, 2 & 3 are the best, they really catch my eye!
