Amazing hibiscus specimens 'Christian'. (I think we need a separate thread for blooming hibiscus).

@Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley I’m so proud of how far its come in just 3 years and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

@rouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a) hibiscus and roses are two of my favorite flowers, the newest introductions in the last 6 years or so have really improved over the older cultivars i started with 14-15 years ago. These new plants have much better growth habits and bloom all over the plant and not just the tips of the stems.

Beautiful flowers! My hibiscus are just starting to bloom. I can't wait!

Very nice!! My hybiscus are just starting too but I love this time of year when all the surprises have come and gone ( lilies ) then I can look forward to the Hybiscus. I need a french vanilla. Your poets wife is gorgeous!

    Over wintered from last year

    Alwsys first to bloom

Kristine, french vanilla is one of the few white flowers I chose for my garden mostly becuase its more of a cream and has that nice red eye definitley worthy of a space in the garden. Your hibiscus are gorgeous! I’ve tried groing tropical as patio plants that come in during the winter but they always slowly wither away on me.

I managed to order in the 2025 Proven winners summerific hibiscus ’Cookies and Cream’ at work, It looks like a beauty with a pure white flower on a burgandy foliage. It has yet to bloom at work ( i usually like to try to see a plant in bloom before i purchase if possible).

my next hibiscus purchase for the backyard will be ‘All Eyes on Me’, here is a photo of the one I have on hold at work.

Poets wife is a gorgous yellow from DA and she has a great fragrance my one qualm is how fast she fades to white.

Wow you really are The Hibiscus King lol. I got a few new varieties this year but they were very tiny and haven't bloomed yet. They are Summer Carnival (variegated pink/white/green leaves) magenta flowers, Lilac Crush (lavender pink flowers), and Blackberry Merlot. Blackberry Merlot is supposed to be darker than Heartthrob which is one of my favorites for its almost maroonish-black buds. We will see lol.

Sultry, thank you for the praise these plants do all the work i just feed them and prune them in the spring. I don't grow any of the reds but I do get them in at work pretty often, I think You will be happy with blackberry.

A Glamour shot of a pair of Edge of the Night flowers.

My young scentuous in a flush.

El Niño Chatalpa a new large shrub/small tree from Proven winners. Its wonderfully fragrant, adores the heat and 100% sterile.

ChristainChristian, your yard is so full of color and texture. Do yo wirk st a nursery?

Beautiful garden, Christian!! I see that you love hibiscus too! I have a few and just bought an amazing one yesterday called "Watermelon Ruffles". You need this one!! It's stunning. I'm partial to the pinks and red varieties. Oh, and "Candy Crush" hibiscus is also beautiful. Actually, I think they are all stunning!! I'm running out of room to plant them!

Kristine I do work at a local lawn garden and pet store, Im in charge of the nursery section of the store I’m located at.

Bellarosa, I actually planted 2 Watermelon Ruffles in my backyard about a month a go i, so excited to see what they do next year. Im partisl to the pinks but their is a red called Valintine Crush that is a bright cherry red that has caught my eye.

Christian, great - WR is SO beautiful! I love the reds and pinks. I just bought another one, Evening Rose. Hardy hibiscus are amazing! Question for you on your Doris Day rose - do the blooms stay bright yellow for long? I have a Julia Child rose and I love the color of the blooms when they first open, but then quickly fade to a light yellow - I'm not a fan of this. I'm curious to know about Doris Day - one of my all time favorite actresses!

btw, I also have Queen of Elegance - her blooms are stunning!! One of my favorites!!

The garden looks terrific, all the hibiscus and roses are so well grown. I think if I worked at a nursery I would spend more than they pay me and become indentured labor forever.

Bellarosa I will have to take a gander at Doris when I get home tonight I dont recall seeing her fade but I havent been watching her too close.

Queen of Elegance is a trooper for me. She lived in her nursery pot for two seasons before I got her in ground in 2022.

here are a few more flowers as she starts a new flush.

BenT its extrodinarily hard to keep moneybin my pocket I often want to splurge on plants I order in. Luckily (or unluckily) I dont get to help with the rose orders, those are done at Home Office (corporate). The guy who builds those orders isn’t much of a rose guy so the orders tend to be rather blasé.

If I had a say in what roses we ordered I would sink tons of my money back into the company for roses.

below is a blossom from Gertrude Jeckyll, which one of my perennial vendors suprisingly offered this year.

@bellarosa here is Doris day as of this evening there is some fading but not nearly as bad as it is for my The Poet’s Wife, my only other true yellow to compare it to.
