Such beautiful densely needled branches.

I should've known by other plants I saw there, it was a little above my zone. 5b to 7b in that part of the world.

Could be any of the arid-climate pines? Bristlecone, pinyon (several species), the "Afghan" pines they plant in Las Vegas?

Believe it or not, there was a pretty big giant sequoia on the grounds of Utah State University in Salt Lake City when I was there in the 90s. It has to have been watered I would think.

The cones say thunbergii to me as well.

I presented sufficient information to make positive id of genus & specie regardles of variety so pinus thunbergii it is.
