living room design

last year

Looking to purchase new furniture. Want recliners. We use the living room to watch TV mostly (which is where the current couch faces).
Debating if we should get a love seat & two recliners (recliners on window wall) , or couch & one recliner ?

A friend says placing two recliners facing the tv is “old” and “nursing home” like 🤣 so thinking we have to put the recliners on the window wall.
Would love advice.

Posting our current setup & the couch & recliners were interested in.

It may be old and some on here will tell you not to do it but it's your home and you should be comfortable. I did 4 chairs - 2 recliners facing TV and 2 swivel chairs for when others are here.

if you won't use a sofa, don't get a sofa.

@lyn I believe we will use the sofa- it has recliners in it. Just wondering if we need the big sofa & just one separate reclining chair , or if we should do the two recliners and smaller love seat

IMO, a love seat is too stuffy for a TV room. if you need a full length sofa, for napping, etc. get a regular low profile sofa with exposed legs (so it doesn't over power the space) the reclines are big enough (I like a slim profile recliner in an upholstered fabric, so it doesn't look sloppy and too big for the space... But, get comfortable, it's your home.

I wouldn't get a love seat. Really only one person can sit on it comfortably. If the sofa is reclining, do you really need two more? How many people do you need to seat to watch TV?

@kcooz07 we typically only have my husband and son watching tv. However, I feel like I would still like the option to sit in another chair to watch tv or just to sit and read etc .

I do not love reclining furniture except in a space where you never have guests. A soga and 2 chairs works well 2 ottomans serve the purpose of the reclining chairs . I see no TV so have no clue as to what faces the TV. IMO old style is the light more than a seating arrangement .

I would not get a recliner sofa and if you are getting the leather recliner with square arms I would look for a more modern clean line sofa to blend well with the recliner style…why not add a comfy club chair with a ottoman to relax in….mixed with the leather recliner.

Also it is hard to have a reclining sofa with a coffee table..something to think about.

I happen to love recliners in a tv room, but I do like them not to look like a recliner. Slender and not overstuffed . I would not do a loveseat, but would consider a sofa.

Where do you find said slender recliners? The ones I’m finding that actually feel best & fit good seem to be a little larger.

that leather recliner you posted is definitely NOT nursing home. I would get the piece of furniture as you would use it. I like to lie down when I watch tv so I would want a sofa.

I really like the leather recliner..get it in leather it looks so much better than fabric!

I love stressless recliners! Not as bulky as most other recliners.

However, I didn't get one for my living room. What worked best in my space was a large sectional, and my sectional has 3 built in recliners,
