We had a major downpour overnight, around 37mm in my yard, and when it finally stopped I took the time to quickly shoot some of what hostas are still in bloom.

Ann, it hasn’t been a good year for hostas for me either. Between the slugs and especially the earwigs, most of mine are tattered as well. I’m just happy some of them still look decent!

Pieter, I am loving your deep purple blooms. And the fragrant flowers are so wide open and filled with so much fragrance, ya gotta love those too!

Nice blooms everyone! Debra you have so many in bloom now, most of mine are done. Of course it did not help that it rained for a week when I was due to spray to keep the rotten deer away. They enjoyed the flower buds and left the leaves alone except for Invincible.

Almost almost. I want to put it into sun potted next year, it just not showing well in shade.

Lauri, that kikutii is doing GREAT! FYI, their scapes are near horizontal by nature, they come from an area with abundant precipitation and the scapes are held sub-horizontal to facilitate drainage to keep the flowers from getting swamped with water. It tends to grow weakly in shade and needs a fair bit of sun to thrive.

Pieter THANK YOU for kikutii, it is truly a favorite! I am happy with it's progress and just to show off the flowers I gathered them up in my hand like a bouquet. I like the horizontal orientation as it lends to their charm. Hmm, I do have it in a quite shady area so in spring I will try to move it to a sunnier spot. Thank you again for this little gem!

Lauri, you're welcome, so glad it's established itself. You might want to try dividing what you have, keep one where it is now and put the other in a sunnier location. You may want to read up on the specie as described by George Schmid on the Hosta Library for more in depth information. FYI, the plant you received is from seed collected in Japan. The chap who collected it says he saw the plant growing epiphytic in situ at point of collection. I know of one chap in a local gardening club who was going to try that but I haven't spoken with him for some time and don't know how he did with that experiment.

Will do on both counts Pieter. So nice having a back story. It would be really interesting to know if he or anyone has tried epiphytic growing. It would take someone more attentive than myself lol!

I only have two blooming hosta in my backyard! One wasn't worth photographing, but I took the other one. Maybe I have some that are blooming in the front yard.

I was given this hosta as Geisha, but now it is said to be called Ani Machi.

The wind was blowing and I didn't like the photo I took so I tried again. I took the flowers off and put them on the leaves.
